When Losing, Republicans Shift To Smear Campaign

During the past half century, the Republican Party has invariably resorted to use of smear and distortion when electoral figures revealed they might lose an election. The McCain-Palin ticket has seen the figures and concluded they can follow the honest road which leads to defeat or they can follow the yellow journalism route to victory by smearing the reputation of their opponents. Bubbly Sarah Palin has already made mention that evil Barack Obama associates with “terrorists” because he knows former Weatherman from the 1960s Bill Ayers. Of course, when Ayers engaged in his violent behavior, Barack was a six year old, but, according to Palin-McCain if you know someone who did a bad thing 40 years ago you are responsible for his bad actions.

Obama, learning from the John Kerry mistake of actually believing Republicans could campaign fairly, swung into action and challenged the latest smear tactics of John McCain. “Senator McCain and his operatives are gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They’d rather try to tear our campaign down then lift this country up. It’s what you do when you’re out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time.”

Given the Republican record over the past eight years, changing the subject is the only alternative to defeat. John, how about charging the Democrats with “losing China to communism,” that worked in 1952?
