A high percent of Americans believe Muslims from this country have gone to the Middle East or Somalia in order to fight alongside religious fanatics. Every time a story is printed which identifies a Muslim engaged in violence some place in the world, it is certain to result in stories that American Muslims can not be trusted. A recent video from Somalia portrayed Jehad Mostafa, a University of California graduate, working with al-Shabab.

US government figures indicate about 40 American Muslims have gone overseas to fight with terrorist groups. Let’s look at the record

1. A few hundred American Jews went to Israel in 1948 to fight its war for independence, including several officers in the US Army.

2. Dozens of American Irish people have worked with the IRA, a terrorist group.

3. Hundreds of Americans volunteered to fight in the Canadian or British armies during WWII.

4. At least a few thousand Americans of German ancestry went to Nazi Germany and served in its armed forces.

Sos, 40 American Muslims have gone overseas to fight with terrorist groups!

Father Edward Daly, a highly respected Irish cleric who fought for the rights of Catholics in Northern Ireland has entered the fray and is now fighting for religious rights in his own church. As a senior cleric in the Catholic Church, Father Daly openly called for allowing priests to marry in order to save the church from its own problems. “There will always be a place in the church for a celibate priesthood, but there should also be a place for a married priesthood in the church.”

Father Daly points out the reality of a declining number of Irish born priests to serve the needs of the Irish people. The church has been compelled to bring in priests from other nations which does not address key issues. A foreign born priest may not be as successful in working with Irish people. Daly expressed that he found “heartbreaking” during his time as bishop that so many priests or prospective priests were forced to resign or were unable to get ordained because of the celibacy issue.

When will the Pope accept reality?

Hollywood actor, Jeremy Irons is upset at the world. He is furious that government bodies pass legislation which controls the rights of men to place their hands on another person’s body. As far as he is concerned, if a man wants to place his hand on a woman’s butt, she should consider this as a compliment, not an insult. If you have a great butt, why not share it with the world? Irons simply can not understand the attitude of women who reject friendly hand compliments from men.

There are too many people in power with little to do so they churn out laws to justify their jobs. I hope it’s a rash that will wear itself out. If a man puts his hand on a woman’s bottom, any woman worth her salt can deal with it. It’s communication. Can’t we all be friendly?

I believe Irons has a point. If I wander down the street, spot an attractive woman– of course if you are gay it could be an attractive man– what exactly is wrong if I walk up to her, plant a kiss, feel her boobs and invite the fair lass to join me in bed? I am quite receptive to a touch down below and some rubbing. Let’s all become friendly. At least if we are happy with one another, it will deal with the unhappiness in our economic lives!

Decades before there was any such thing as “Muslim terrorists,” the people of Ireland confronted issues of terrorism in their daily lives. Members of the Irish Republican Army resorted to murder, to bombs and to physical bullying of their opponents. Of course, they were fighting for “freedom,” and their right to govern themselves. According to Representative Pet King, who currently is conducting hearings into the issue of American Muslim terrorism, the IRA represented decent people and he was proud to contribute money to help them secure weapons. Two days ago in Northern Ireland, a policeman was leaving his home when he triggered off a booby-trap that left him dead. Yesterday, police found a van which had high explosives and was undoubtedly going to be used to kill innocent people. Yes, Pete King, they are simply “patriots” fighting for their rights!

No commentator in America will refer to these incidents of violence in Ireland because they were caused by white, Catholic men. If a Muslim uses violence, it is because the Muslim is a terrorist. If a white person uses violence, it is because he is a freedom fighter!

As we write these words, a congressional hearing is taking place in Washington D.C. under the chairmanship of Congressman Pete King of Long Island. The hearings are designed to uncover evidence that al-Qaeda or some other Muslim fanatic group is securing recruits from among American Muslims. Congressman King for many years was a supporter of the Irish Republican Army(IRA) and when asked how he could justify being an active supporter of a terrorist group, he argued they were not killing Americans and they were really patriotic men and women. This is an interesting observation, particularly on St. Patrick’s day. We offer evidence of some of the “patriotic” activities carried on by King’s beloved IRA:

May 17, 1974, 26 civilians killed by IRA bombs in Dublin.

February 17, 1978, 12 civilians burned alive by the IRA.

August 15, 1998, A bomb blast in Omagh results in death of 2 babies and nine children.

I guess, as far as Pete King is concerned, none of the dead were Americans. Of course, they were IRISH!!

We seriously doubt the outcome of Pete King’s investigation will uncover evidence that American Muslims were ever responsible for 1% of the deaths caused by the IRA.

Congressman Pete King of Long Island is a proud member of the Irish race who is concerned about those of the Muslim faith that seek violence. Yes, he is the same man who proudly supported the Irish Republican Army which killed dozens of people in its struggle against the Brits. IRA terrorists killed more innocent people than any combination of American Muslims, but King is not going to be deterred by “political correctness” when it comes to saving America. His upcoming hearings will “raise awareness of the radical threat within the United States from within the Muslim community.” After all, you could count on the fingers of one hand the number of so-called “Muslim violent acts.” But, it would take several pages to depict violence by members of the Irish community who supported the IRA’s campaign of violence in Ireland. We suggest, if King is interested in violence,” he might consider:

1. The rising radicalization within the Italian community posed by the Mafia. If we adhere to King standards, the presence of a few thousand members of the Mafia implicates the entire Italian American community.

2. The rising radicalization of the Jewish community in America, many of whose members support violent policies of the Israel army.

3. How about the Greeks in this country? A few months back there were riots in the streets of Greece?

4. I am shocked Pete King is not conducting hearings on the rise of radicalization of Chinese Americans, given the violence of the Chinese government against dissidents.

5. Of course, when it comes to violence, how about hearings into the Tea Party whose rhetoric of violence inflames many nut cases?

It is increasingly clear that Mike Bloomberg, after three terms as mayor of New York has decided to head for greener pastures, and those will not be in the emerald island of Ireland. While attending a meeting of the Irish Historical Society, the mayor decided it was time to tell jokes. Ordinarily, the grim faced cheerless visage of Bloomberg rarely displays a smile, but, what the heck, he doesn’t have to worry about people voting for him, so let it all hang out. He lives near the Historical Society building so he decided to share some information concerning his feelings toward the Irish. “I live in the neighborhood right around the corner. Normally, when i walk by this building there are a lot of people that are totally inebriated” and they are hanging out the windows shouting and screaming. Later, when some Irish people who were present spoke of their resentmett toward his comments, he could not resist saying, “we Jews feel this way.”

My wife is Irish and my children share that heritage so I feel called upon, as a good Jewish boy, to tell the mayor he should not halt at the Irish. How about:

1. “How many Polaks does it take to screw in a light bulb?”

2. “if there is a crime in your neighborhood, check the Italians hanging around the streets.”

3. Not that I have anything against those of the colored persuasion, heck, some of my best friends are colored–white, that it.

4. Did you ever notice that all banks are owned by Jews? Of course, sometimes they change their names, but if you do some checking it tyurns out Jews run everything.

In a recent article printed in the Irish Independent newspaper, a research study revealed women think about food more than sex. According to the study, 60% of women do not feel comfortable eating when with their partner nor do they feel comfortable undressing before that person. Apparently, women think about food every thirty minutes, but when it comes to thinking about sex, that is much more of a delayed thought in their minds. Food is a major concern of modern women. Unlike women in the past who thought about food because they were hungry or starving, modern women think about food because of fear they may eat too much and thus create problems with their partner-male or female, that is. They even eat fewer calories when going out with their partner than when alone.

So, what does this say about modern men and women? Those in modern economic societies eat too damn much food and have too much less sex. Poor people think about food because they fear starvation, modern folk think about food because they fear a big butt. Perhaps, each year, women in modern economic societies should switch places with women who barely get enough to eat.

The ever divisive issue of abortion once again surfaced as to whether or not it is a human right of women. The European Court of Human Rights agreed with the petition of three women from Ireland that their nation’s restrictive laws which make an abortion a crime punishable by prison to be a violation of their inherent human right to decide what happens to their bodies. Irish Attorney General Paul Gallagher challenged the court decision because it ignored “profound moral values deeply embedded in Irish society.” As one who has mixed feelings concerning the issue of abortion, it is also clear that an individual has a right to decide what happens to her body. Much as I would prefer that abortion not be performed, the bottom line is there is no right for a man to tell a woman what she can or cannot do to herself when it is an issue of health.

A law passed in 1861 has at least to be rethought in light of contemporary issues of human rights. There are women who abuse the fetus by obesity or by use of drugs and we allow such behavior. If the fetus has rights as claimed by opponents of abortion, why don’t the support laws that prevent a pregnant woman becoming obese or using drugs?

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin, Ireland, was informed by the Vatican that he could not compel the resignations of two auxiliary bishops who had been requested to leave their posts after revelations they were involved in the Catholic Church cover-up of child abuse. Martin informed priests and other church officials, “following the presentation of their resignations to Pope Benedict, it has been decided that Bishop Eamonn Walsh and Bishop Raymond Field will remain as auxiliary bishops.” He did not they would be assigned some “responsibilities within the diocese,” whatever that means. Martin had worked with secular authorities and provided them thousands of previously secret church documents in their investigation of child abuse. In March, Pope Benedict published a letter to the Irish Catholic people in which he condemned abusers and defended their victims.

One is left wondering why one sends a letter to a nation and then when the nation initiates action to carry out your desires they are told not to continue pursuing the path to logical resolution of problems.

Thirty eight years ago Irish people were marching when British soldiers began firing and when the day was over, 14 Irish citizens were dead in the city of Derry. A senior judge issued a report on Tuesday in which he concluded the murder of the marchers was “unjustified and unjustifiable.” Within hours, Prime Minister David Cameron issued the first apology by a member of the British government. Cameron told Parliament, “what happened on Bloody Sunday was both unjustified and unjustifiable.” and that all who died were innocent. None of those murdered were armed with firearms an no warning was given by soldiers before firing. He stated bluntly that soldiers were guilty of “losing their self control.” The Sayville inquiry claimed “many of those soldiers(who testified) have knowingly put forward false accounts in order to justify their firing.”

It remains unclear if any who participated in the massacre will be prosecuted. Soldiers who testified were granted immunity, but anyone who lied could be prosecuted for perjury. As far as this reporter knows, the nation of Great Britain has not collapsed because its government admitted mistakes. President Obama continues to avoid an inquiry into the invasion of Iraq which resulted in the deaths of over 4,000 Americans on grounds it would be divisive. Prime Minister Cameron apologized to his nation and to relatives of those who were murdered. Certainly, parents and wives of those who died in Iraq are entitled to a similar apology.

Church attendance has declined among Catholics at an ever increasing rate which might cause those in charge to explore the meaning of this shift as to why more and more Catholics in Europe are not regular church goers. But, this is the church, not of Jesus Christ, but of Pope Benedict XVI who believes if there are any problems they undoubtedly stem from either –failure of priests to be more forceful in spreading church doctrine, or due to lack of Catholics going to church on a regular basis to confess their sins. A special nine man(God forbid appointing a woman) investigator group has arrived in Ireland to spread the word that it is time to get back to basics and cease all these modern ideas about priests actually discussing issues with members of their parish. Priests will be told under no condition are they allowed to publicly question church teaching or whatever the Pope says or does. They must adhere to church doctrine on birth control and abortion and end secular attitudes.

Let me get this straight. Catholics in Ireland have been dissatisfied with their church doctrine and have ceased going to church. According to Pope Benedict XVI, the solution is to make certain what they dislike WILL be taught by priests. There is no question following this approach will witness millions returning to the Catholic Church. I wonder if Pope Benedict has considered volunteering to assist the Israel Cabinet. His ideas on problem solving come across as though uttered by the Israel government.

It was not that long ago when gays and lesbians were verbally and physically assaulted by those who hated anyone whose sexual ideas differed from mass opinion. Dale McAlpine is a Christian street preacher in Ireland who was sounding off on a street corner about evil gays and quoting the Bible to support his views on sexuality when he was suddenly arrested by police on grounds he violated the Public Order Act which forbids using abusive or insulting language to other people. I was raised on the streets of New York where we spent our days devising insults to friends and foes alike. Mr. McAlpine has views which are contrary to my own which means I have views which are contrary to those of this street preacher. He believes the Bible does not approve of same sex relations. And, he was arrested in his home town for speaking his views. “I had been arrested in my own town and treated like a common criminal in front of people I know.”

The police trotted out the argument about the need to protect public order. Hogwash. He was talking with strangers, who most probably passed him by and went about their daily business. No one was disturbed but the police. God made each human unique. Let us respect the uniqueness of Mr. Alpine because he has a right to hate gays and lesbians just as I hate those who hate gays and lesbians.

Little did Phoebe know what awaited a sensitive young girl who is thrust into the vicious world of teenage hooligans. She apparently made an error in dating a popular football player for a few weeks which somehow translated into an assault upon the sacred world of S. Hanley High School “in crowd” girls. They began a blatant campaign to drive Phoebe from the school. As District Attorney Elizabeth Scheibel described it the process culminated in a “nearly three month campaign of verbal assaultive behavior and threats of physical violence.”

Football player Sean Mulveyhill has been charged with statutory rape and violation of civil rights along with other boys and girls. The unanswered question is where were school officials? As one who has taught for fifty years, all I can say is there is no excuse for teachers failing to pick up on such behavior toward one of their students.

It would be beneficial if the district attorney charged school officials with assisting criminal behavior.

As the saying goes, there is something rotten going on in European nations as increasing anger towards the Catholic Church rises. More than 10,000 people in the UK have signed petitions opposing Pope Benedict’s proposed visit to their nation. Perhaps, even more ominous is an investigation by some British lawyers as to whether the Pope could be charged as an accomplice in a systematic cover-up of sexual abuses by priests. Universal jurisdiction– a concept in international law– allows judges to issue warrants for nearly any visitor accused of grievous crimes, no matter where they live. British judges have been more open to this concept than most judges in the world.

Geoffrey Robertson, a former UN appeals judge, notes, “unlike in the United States, where the judges commonly uphold what the executive says the British courts don’t accept these things at face value.” However, most probably few would dare to open such a can of worms in the United Kingdom. In the end, it is necessary for the Catholic Church to monitor its own system.

There are times in life when a visit is ill timed and best could be delayed to a more appropriate time, but Pope Benedict XVI is not delaying his trip to England to meet with bishops of the Church of England. Even as he prepared to leave Italy, Dr. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church let loose some bluntly critical remarks concerning behavior of the Irish Catholic Church regarding cases of sexual abuse of children. He said leaders of the Irish Catholic Church had lost “all credibility” and the events represented a “colossal trauma” for all involved in church leadership. His comments were greeted with scorn by Irish Catholic leaders. “Those working for renewal in the Catholic Church do not need this comment on the Easter weekend and do not deserve it.” If not now, when?

Rowan Williams does not expect many Anglicans do be attracted by offers from the Pope and returning to the bosom of the Catholic faith. This is not the right time for Catholics to reach out to other Christians and seek their return to the Church. Another time, another leadership, might result in a different reaction.

The death of 15 year old Phoebe Prince who arrived in America about a year ago from Ireland should be compulsory study in every high school in America. The fifteen year old arrived in the United States and assume attending high school would not only be a learning experience but fun as she met new friends. From day one of her arrival, a group of girls at the high school decided Phoebe was not their type and began a daily constant program of verbal abuse not only in her presence but on Facebook. Girls followed her in school shouting, “Irish slut,” and other insults, but apparently, no teachers ever heard their shouts. She undoubtedly committed a terrible crime by briefly dating a popular football player. As anyone who has taught in American high school knows, football players are reserved for the cheerleaders.

The Massachusetts legislature has passed an anti-bullying law, but there are unanswered questions. As one who taught high school for ten years and has worked with 12,000 teachers it is impossible for me to believe that teachers and school administrators did not know what was happening to Phoebe. There should be a police investigation of the faculty and criminal charges brought against any educator who allowed such behavior. We hope the family will sue the school district in order to send a message to teachers and administrators that children at a school have a right to personal security.

Pope Benedict XVI apologized to the people of Ireland for increasing revelations of sexual abuses caused by actions of members of the clergy. He admitted there had been “grave errors of judgment” on the part of those in charge of the Catholic Church. He appealed to priests to “openly acknowledge your guilt and submit yourselves to the demands of justice.” However, many critics are concerned at failure to open the files and allow secular authorities to investigate any and all claims of abuse on the part of clergy members. There is also a sense the Pope simply lacks a grasp as to the extent of what occurred in Ireland, let alone understand what must be done.

The issue of celibacy remains one that is not examined. Celibacy was NOT a practice among original members of the Catholic church and was added hundreds of years after the death of Jesus Christ. It is time to reopen the topic by asking a commission representing a cross section of views to examine the topic and make recommendations.

An apology today will simply require another one tomorrow unless changes are made in celibacy,

There are two things that certainly will be in the news these days, a story about Israel and housing and a story about a priest who abused children while the church gazed off into space. Still another example emerged when Bishop Seamus Hegarty announced that he had known about a priest who sexually abused an eight year old child and the girl’s family was paid to remain silent. The girl endured a decade of abuse at the hands of a priest who had been invited to her home where the abuse occurred. She was told that God would punish her if anything was said to other people. However, when she turned 18 the story emerged. She recently won a court case and was awarded about $20,000 in compensation.

The family went to Bishop Hegarty and informed him of the sexual abuse but the good bishop expressed more concern over the “ill priest” who needed their “pity” rather than their anger. As the father put it, Hagerty was “totally unsympathetic.” As so often occurs in these child abuse cases, the messenger is the culprit, not the culprit.

The ongoing saga of paedophile priests in Ireland continues with an apology from Cardinal Sean Brady for his failure to adequately handle a case of child abuse in 1975 when two children were compelled to take a vow of silence while the church conducted an investigation. Cardinal Brady now admits the police should immediately have been informed since it was a crime not merely in the church, but in civil society. Father Brendan Smyth was relieved of clerical duties and recommended for psychiatric treatment, but since the police were never involved in the incident, Smyth continued having access to children and most probably abused other youngsters. Cardinal Brady told Catholics: “I am ashamed that I have not always upheld the values that I profess and believe in.”

The reality is such stories of abuse of children continue emerging as well as actions by church officials to protect the clergy. In the end, both children and the Catholic Church suffer and even as Brady announced he would reflect on what happened in order to exam his future, isn’t there need for the Catholic Church to also reflect and consider if there are alternatives to the current policy of celibacy?

Every so often a group of humans passes a law or expresses an idea which is so ludicrous as to deserve some sort of award for stupidity. The Irish government has passed a “blasphemy law” which makes it a crime to tell a member of a religion that his ideas are weird or lacking in truth. According to the law, blasphemy is defined as: “publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting related to matter sacred by any religion thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion.” As Nicholas Nugent of Ireland Atheist notes, this is simply a “silly and dangerous” law.

For example:
define: “Grossly abusive.”

According to fox News haters of democracy, the only way to save the city or to save the nation from the bomb ticking in a subway is to torture someone into revealing the place of explosion so the 24 crew can rush to the scene and prevent mayhem. However, in real life, solid police work has prevented a group committed to al-Qaeda from pursuing a plan to assassinate a Swedish cartoonist who committed the horrible sin of portraying the Prophet Mohammed with the body of a dog. Of course, Muslim newspapers an publications constantly portray Jews in despicable ways, but, then again, if you portray non-Muslims in a grotesque fashion, you are simply carrying out the mandate of God.

The bottom line is the seven Muslims were captured without resorting to torture or any form of physical abuse. It simply required good old fashioned police work, cooperation from security agencies throughout the world and a dose of common sense.

Over the past twenty years, Ireland has witnessed the arrival of new immigrants from African, Middle Eastern, and South American countries. At a recent conference, many Irish human rights advocates demanded passage of a law that would declare illegal female genital mutilation(FGM). According to Labor Senator Ivana Bacik, “there is a lack of clarity as to whether a defense of consent might apply to any parent charged with assault arising out of allowing FGM to be practiced on their daughter.” It is difficult for a teen age girl to stand up and denounce a parent they know might wind up in jail for forcing them to have FGM.

It is estimated in Ireland there are about 2,500 women who have been subjected to FGM. There undoubtedly is also need to rethink immigration laws since immigrants might take the girl back to their native land for the FGM. Modern life increasingly becomes more complex.

It is all too common on blogs to single out stories concerning abuse by priests or nuns as examples of the failure of religion. For example, a priest in Ireland is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl, and after the abuse making her say 10 Hail Marys in order to seek penance. Obviously, the priest, Father Maeliosa O’Hauallachain was attempting to manipulate the mind of a teen age girl in order for her to take on guilt for what was done to her by another human. The woman, now 42, described in detail how the priest fondled her, made her masturbate the man, and played with various parts of her body. What does this tale really reveal?

First, being a priest or imam or rabbi is no guarantee the individual is any healthier in sexual issues than the average person. Second, religion is used for immoral as well as moral desires in life. But, the question rarely raised in these examples of abuse in the Catholic religion is whether there is need to allow priests and nuns access to a healthy normal sex life. Marriage in itself is no guarantee that people are sexually content. But, certainly, there is now sufficient evidence of the need to allow marriage for priests and nuns.

A new strict blasphemy law in Ireland makes it a serious crime punishable by a fine of up to $44,000 for anyone who has the audacity to deny the existence of the Almighty. The law defines blasphemy as “publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation o matters sacred by any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents to that religioin with some defenses permitted.” In response to this insult to free speech, Michael Nugent of Atheist Ireland, commented: “this law is both silly and ridiculous and dangerous.” It is silly because in a secular society the right of free speech can not be silenced by denial of being contrary to other views.

I do not have any pipeline to whoever or whatever resides in the sky. But, then again, since no one has ever seen the Old Man in the sky, and no one has proof they have spoken with it or him or whatever or whoever, how can those who deny there is someone in the sky be compelled to pay for having such views. Frankly, the only blasphemy is denying the right to express a religious or non-religious viewpoint.

I assume members of the Irish legislature which passed this law grasp they have now empowered fundamentalist Muslims and Jews and Hindus to take people to court for opposing their ridiculous ideas

A recent report on the existence of child sexual abuse in Catholic churches continues to reverberate throughout Ireland. Bishops Eamon Walsh and Raymond Field were the latest members of the Catholic clergy to resign after evidence emerged there had been neglect in protecting the rights of children. They issued a statement: “As we celebrate the Feast of Christmas, the birth of our Savior, the Prince of Peace, it is our hope that our action may help bring the peace and reconciliation of Jesus Christ to the victims/survivors of child sexual abuse.” Dublin Labor Councilor Aodhan O Riordain added his own hope, “as a principal of a Catholic school, I feel we can hide from the debate no longer.”

What is the debate about? As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who was born 2009 years ago, we should recall that the early leaders of the Christian church were not celibate and had families and enjoyed healthy and normal sexual lives Perhaps, it is time to return to the original views of the Christian church?

Pope Benedict accepted the resignation of Bishop Donal Murray in Ireland because of his “inexcusable” mishandling of child abuse cases. Over the years, parents and children made complaints regarding the behavior of priests, but the good bishop decided to ignore their statements because of his firm belief that priests were men of God, not men of the flesh. “I humbly apologize once again,” he told an audience of those who had been abused of knew of such behavior, “to all who were abused as little children.. I repeat that my primary concern is to assist in every way I can on their journey towards final closure and serenity.”

I have no doubt the Bishop is speaking from his heart and is truly sorry for what happened. But, isn’t it about time for such bishops and the Pope to pose even more critical questions concerning priests and nuns in the church? Isn’t it about time to rethink the entire idea of marriage for the clergy and hope allowing priests and nuns a normal sexual life will result in healthier sexual attitudes?

Three Irish women are appealing to the European Human Rights Court to have the right to an abortion in their native land of Ireland. Although Ireland in 1992 granted the right to an abortion if the life of the mother was threatened, the plaintiffs argue most doctors are afraid to draw upon that law because they still could be subjected to fine or imprisonment. In effect, they argue the law has turned out to be a bogus document which is not enforced. The women, A, B, and C say they have a right to an abortion, particularly in cases where the life of the mother is threatened if she goes through with child birth.

The Irish government argues that abortion violates their moral and religious values and that nations have the right to pursue individual historical laws that are part of the national culture. The issue raises interesting issues as to whether or not a nation whichu belongs to an international body and is bound to accept laws of the group has a right to break away on certain issues. The bottom line is if a nation can avoid following abortion rights do Muslims in a European nation have a right to adhere to sharia laws?

For some reason the Virgin Mary appears to some people and not to others. For years I have been upset the Virgin Mary never appears to we Jews even though she most probably was born and raised a Jew. Dubliner Joe Coleman is the latest person who has made contact with someone up in the sky and around 15,000 of his followers are gathering at the Knock Shrine to see a vision or, at least, what passes for a vision these days. The Catholic Church is quite upset at these unauthorized “sightings” since they already have a monopoly on what can or can not be seen up in the sky. Clergy fear that on December 8, the feast time of the Immaculate Conception, a crowd of thousands will gather to see the blessed Virgin Mary when she descends from Heaven. Mr. Coleman has assured one and all there will be a message from Mary since he is now her appointed conduit to the human race.

According to reports people are seeing things in the sky. What bothers me is how come Catholic angels can float around the sky but we never see any Jewish or Muslim ones. I guess it’s the luck of the Irish when it comes to Virgin Marys and angels.

The Vatican has decided issues pertaining to abortion or homosexuality are the most critical facing humanity. On the eve of a vote in Ireland on future relations with the European Union, the Vatican has thrown its support in favor of a “no” vote on the Lisbon Treaty. According to Cardinal Bertone, “the EU prescribes its laws or view to them, and they do not have to fit with their traditions and history. Some countries are logically resisting this-for example, Ireland.” Naturally, the most important issue to the Cardinal was, “if Europe recognized homosexual couples as equal to marriage for example, it would go against its own history. And it would be right to stand against it. The church wants to encourage states in this.”

I wonder where the Vatican was when George Bush launched a war based on lies. Didn’t his war policies violate American traditions? Of course, if Bush had been pushing homosexuality, you can bet the Vatican would enter into the debate.
