From Gaza To Beirut?

The nation of Israel is currently engaged in an election to determine which political party will gain power. If there is one thing that inspires Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to flex his muscles is the advent of an election. After all, he saved Israel from the hordes of Muslim fanatics who were ready to swarm out of Gaza and take over Israel. A missile hit an Israel military vehicle near the border of Lebanon which definitely poses an immediate threat to the existence of the state of Israel. The prime minister issued a warning to one and all. “I suggest that all those who are challenging us on our northern border remember what happened in Gaza.” At least Bibi is clear about his intentions. There were hundreds of missiles fired from Gaza and that resulted in actions leaving over 2,000 Muslims dead and thousands of homes destroyed. So, what is the result of firing A missile?

We can expect some form of military action from Israel. This event allows Bibi to once again pose as the savior of Israel from some horrible end. Let me make clear that any nation has a right to defend itself against attacks. As of this moment, there is no danger in the north to the nation of Israel. The solution to war is the table of peace and talks and honest negotiation. THAT is the salvation of Israel!!

Bibi Behaves Like Bibi

There is no doubt that future historians will regard the foreign policy of President Barack Obama in the Middle East as a story of failed opportunities to move toward peace in the region. From day one of his administration he has bowed before Israel’s lobby, AIPAC, whose members are theoretically loyal Americans, but in reality serve the purposes of those Israelis refusing to seek peace with Palestinians. Let me make perfectly clear that the interests of Israel lie on pursuing the path of peace with Palestinians. Let me also make perfectly clear that Palestinian leaders have turned down one after another proposals for peace from those Israel leaders who DID seek such an end for their nation.

With the rise of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the road to peace has become increasingly difficult. The nonstop seizure of land by Jewish settlers makes any effort to gain peace very problematic. To make matters worse, Bibi Netanyahu has blatantly interfered in the affairs of America by supporting the Republican Party. So, there is no surprise that House Speaker John Boehner issued an invitation for the prime minister of Israel to address Congress. This has shocked the White House. Bernadette Meehan of the NSC issued a statement. “We do not see heads of state or candidates in close proximity to new elections so as to avoid the appearance of influencing elections in a foreign nation.” Actually, the Prime Minister of Israel had no intention of seeing the President of the United States. This is an unheard of insult to the leader of America. Ordinarily, a head of state seeks permission from another head of state prior to talking with local political leaders.

Score one for AIPAC which will undoubtedly raise millions for Republicans in the next AMERICAN election!

Nothing New On Middle Eastern Front

It is common in any discussion about the Middle East for experts to offer some form of “explanation” as to why this or that group committed a horrible crime. Muslims blame other Muslims or blame Israelis. Jews in Israel blame Muslims -just remember that about 17% of people in Israel are Muslims. The death of innocent people can never be “explained away.” There is absolutely no right of anyone, regardless of their anger to murder the innocent nor torture the innocent. People in Tel Aviv got on a bus and headed for work. Just another boring day on a bus headed for the daily grind. A Palestinian boarded the bus, headed for the driver and then took out a kitchen knife and began to stab people. At least nine are injured, and the man was finally wounded by police. There is no doubt this crime will be cited by some Israelis as justification to build more walls or, perhaps, to segregate riders on busses or not allow Palestinians on any bus that contains Jews.

Both Jews and Muslims in Israel and the Palestinian Authority live in the past which they insist most continue in the present and into the future. As of this point in time neither side has any form of leadership which offers solutions to the problems between the rival groups. Sorry, about that last sentence. Both sides DO have proposals, continue the present! If the hole is getting deeper, the solution is to make it ever deeper and, hopefully, one day wind up in China.

Bibi Netanyahu Is One Tough Dude!

Let me make clear that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinians is the result of missed opportunities by both Arab nations, Palestinian leaders and heads of the Israel government. ALL sides in t his conflict come close to an agreement and then walk away for one reason or another. No one in the Middle East has clean hands. But, this is the current reality: Israel has the power to reach an agreement, and the Palestinian Authority must be strong in order to respond to proposals for resolution of the conflict. Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu has decided to play the hate card in order to prove to Israelis that he is a strong man who does not bow before adversity. His government announced that it would not provide the Palestinian Authority of tax revenues which means this government would be out $127 million in order to run the society over which in theory it governs. Israel President Reuven Rivlin attempted to make clear that for the safety of Israel, the “Palestinian Authority must remain functioning.” The United States State Department “conveyed to the Israelis that freezing tax revenues is an action that raises tensions.”

What would occur if the Palestinian Authority ceased to exist?

1. Israel would be responsible for the daily government of this area.

2. Palestinians would, de facto, become part of Israel. Does this mean they would have the right to vote?

A Palestine without its own government is the nightmare of Israel! Wake up Israelis to reality!

No News In Israel

If there is one certainty in the year, 2015, it is that Israel leaders and Palestinian leaders will not be meeting in order to finally resolve issues pertaining to the creation of a lasting peace in this region of the Middle East. The enduring word that depicts this conflict is: FRUSTRATION. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to approach the upcoming election in Israel as the Macho Man who does not budge an inch in defending the rights of Israeli settlers to take over land they believe was given to them by GOD. Now, how can one argue against the old man up in the sky? He definitely told the people of the old book, they could take any and all land they desired. Of course, it is clear that God has no interest in the people of Palestine.

President Abbas who heads the Palestine Authority is also -FRUSTRATED. So, he has decided to go to the International Criminal Court seeking their power to protect the rights of Palestinians. Naturally, any sane person knows such action is a vivid example of—TERRORISM! Imagine, going to a court of law and having it decide-whether or not Israel can take over land that belongs to the people of Palestine. What next, a discussion in the United Nations? These are direct examples of TERRORISM! God bless Bibi Netanyahu for refusing to allow TERRORISTS to impose their will upon the Middle East.

The Madness of Israel Goes On

I was joyous at news that a new nation had arrived in the world in 1948 with the birth of Israel. I have worked on Holocaust education, studied in Israel and been supportive of nation in which Jews are able to feel safe and secure. However, I also believe the essential concept of the new nation of Israel was that her twenty percent of people who are Muslim and Christian also had the right to feel safe and secure. From day one of the creation of Israel, among the most important issues has been emergence of a Muslim nation which would cooperate with Israel in establishing peace and security for all people in the region. Unfortunately, it has been decades since a Muslim leader has been willing to negotiate with Israel. However, the leader of Egypt in 1978, President Sadat, did agree with peace. However, the leaders of Jordan have worked for peace with Israel. And now, the leader of Palestine, President Abbas is willing to have peace.

President Abbas and his allies on the Security Council attempted to get a resolution passed which would require the end of Israel occupation of the West Bank within three years. It failed passage by one vote due to pressure exerted upon Nigeria by the US and Israel. So, if not now the end of occupation, then when? A nation that has as its Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, is not ready to move toward peace for itself or the region. It is time to end the occupation of the West Bank and fight the good battle for peace and justice for ALL people in the West Bank.

Once Again, Israel-Palestine Issues Remain Issues

It took fifty years to finally resolve the conflict between Cuba and the US, but it is now over sixty years without a resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestinians. There is no doubt for most of that time Palestinians lacked leadership willing to resolve the conflict, but there are now Palestinians seeking to achieve peace with Israel. Palestine leaders are asking the United Nations to help resolve their problems with Israel. Here are some suggestions:

1. Israel settlements on the West Bank should be consolidated into an area of about five percent of the land.

2. Israel and Palestine would enter into an economic Union to simulate both economies.

3. A Water Authority would be created to handle this important issue. Jordan could join in handling this issue.

4. A new technology University would be created to bring together Palestinians and Israelis.

5. A joint Israel and Palestinian Armed force would be charged with assuring peace on the West Bank.

6. Israel would pay a billion dollars a year to provide homes for refugees returning to the West Bank.

Some concrete steps for peace.

Big Troubles In Israel

There once was a nice Jewish man named Albert Einstein who endeavored to explain the meaning of the universe. He was also a supporter of Israel, but I wonder if he would support the Israel of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu? I suspect the people of Israel could use someone who might explain the origin and development of the current crisis in which Palestinians are using various strategies in order to vent their anger and frustration. I do realize anyone who dares to write that Palestinians are “angry” or “frustrated” is undoubtedly a self hating Jew. Yesterday, a member of the Palestinian government was killed by Israel soldiers. Ziad Abu Ein was engaged in a terrible display of this Palestinian anger by endeavoring to plant trees in an area that Jewish settlers were once again taking land that originally belonged to Palestinians. So Palestinians are crashing cars into Israelis, throwing acid at innocent Jewish families, and yelling and screaming.

So, if Albert Einstein was alive today, he probably would offer this piece of advice:

1. Sit down with Palestinian authorities and announce that Israel will recognize the new nation of Palestine.

2. Agree to evacuate all but 5% of the West Bank and place all Jewish settlements in that 5% area.

3. Announce that Palestinian refugees would be allowed to return to the West Bank area and a yearly $1 billion Israel fund would provide for 200,000 a year to come home.

4. Establish an Economic Union with Palestinians, Jordan and Egypt in order to foster economic cooperation.

It does not require an Einstein to figure out how to end this anger!

Plant A Tree and Die!

I have frequently been told that I am a “self hating Jew” because my dream is for Israel to exist in peace and cooperation with all nations in the Middle East. I have worked in the field of Holocaust education for over fifty years and did study in Israel, but according to the folks at AIPAC, unless I accept any and all actions by West Bank settlers and the Israel army against Palestinians, it is clear that I hate the state of Israel. Frankly, I am sick and tired of the unJewish actions by West Bank settlers who seize land from Palestinians, destroy their crops and insist these actions are necessary. Recently on the West Bank, a horse was stolen, by you know who, which resulted in angry actions by West Bank settlers. Zaid Abu Ain, a Minister in the government of the Palestinian Authority went to plant some trees. Yes, that was the threatening action he posed to the state of Israel.

It is clear the Minister was shoved, had arms placed around his throat, and wound up on the ground. He is now dead. According to the Israel newspaper, Haaretz, “after Abu Ain was hit by an IDF soldier” he fell to the ground. I am certain AIPAC will insist that once trees are allowed to be planted, the next step in Palestinian terrorism is murder of innocent Israel children. The worse threat to peace in the Middle East is AIPAC, and naturally the worse threat to a US Congressman who supports peace in the Middle East is AIPAC raising money to defeat him or her.

Death In A Synagogue

There is a pattern of hate in the world. Whenever the Israel government appears to assume an aggressive stance and attack Palestinians, there are people who assume that all Jews are responsible for what occurs in Israel. For some reason, Irish people in the United States of America have no connection as to what happens in Ireland, but the concept that Jews all over the world have a connection with one another still lives on within the Christian and Muslim worlds. Levi Rosenvial, age 22, was praying in a Chabad synagogue in Brooklyn when he was attacked by a man shouting, “I want to kill the Jew.” he proceeded to stab the man at prayer. Actually, there is something ironic in seeking to murder a person who is praying to his or her God. I always assumed the purpose of praying was to show respect.

It turns our that Calvin Peters is a well known criminal with a record a mile long. After the stabbing he was confronted with police and charged them. The result was that Calvin died of a bullet in his chest. Just another victim of hate and anger and lack of any sense of reality. I have no doubt that another Jew somewhere in the world will die because of some action of Israel. Oh, if Jews could only be treated as the Irish are!
