Olmert: Partition Jerusalem!

Former Israel Prime Minister Ehud Olmert unfortunately became involved in several illegal activities which compelled his resignation. During his concluding months in office, Olmert worked for peace with Palestinians and creation of a viable two  state solution. Unfortunately, at that time President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority blew an opportunity for two states. The arrival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has crushed any effort to peace.

Olmert spoke about the need to  partition Jerusalem in order to respect the rights of Palestinians. He argues it is too late to create a unified Jerusalem. “No Israel government since 1967 bass done even a smidgen  of what was needed in order to unify the city in practical terms.” Insistence on an “Israel Jerusalem” leads only to ‘tragedy” in the words of Olmert.

It is time to recognize that Jerusalem belongs to three religions, and establish a governance process that recognizes the importance of all to have a voice in how the city is governed.

It’s Boom Time In Syria

It was quite common in many Middle Eastern media outlets to hail those blowing themselves up as heroes of liberation. A suicide bomber who entered an Israel restaurant and killed innocent folk was viewed as a martyr. A suicide bomber who blew up his car in Baghdad and killed dozens of innocent Muslims was simply giving all he could in the cause of getting rid of evil folk. During the past few weeks, suicide bombers began operating in Syria. A bomber blew up his car in a military compound killing seven and wounding over a hundred.

Suicide bombing invariably results in death of the innocent. Today, your enemy was an Israel Jew, tomorrow your enemy is a Muslim. Murder of the innocent is murder regardless of how it is explained away. Assad murders the innocent with weapons of war, murdering supporters of Assad only means innocent people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time will die.

Jews Then, Jews Now!

It is now over a hundred years since my grandfather in Russia was beaten up and  his shop wrecked in the aftermath of stories concerning how Jews killed Christian girls in order to use their blood for Passover matzos. It is nearly a hundred years since there were cries in America to halt influx of east European Jews whose criminal  activities and organized prostitution posed a threat to decent Christian folk. Ah, Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, Mickey Cohen, and dozens of hard working Jewish criminals wandered the streets of America.

Fast forward to Israel, 2012, where Haim Mula, who does not like those African immigrants decided to heave Molotov cocktails at their homes. Israel, 2012, where Interior Minister Eli Yishai argued the need to clear out prisons of petty criminals in order to place in jail some of the 50,000 African gangsters. “The security of Israel citizens is really undermined as a result of these infiltrators and their behavior.”

Yes, then Jews were the infiltrators, then Jews were the criminals, Jews were the ones   responsible for prostitution and rape. Today, the children of those Jews now want to arrest people who are doing exactly what Jews did a hundred years ago. That was then, now is now.

Israel Blasts Jew Haters In EU!

The one consistent message of the Israel government of Benjamin Netanyahu is that any presentation of  what transpires in Israel is condemned  as examples of Jew haters seeking to destroy his nation. Once again, the European Union urged Israel to focus on peace instead of taking actions whose end result will be conflict and hatred. The goal of the EU, as well as those who seek peace and prosperity for Israelis is the presence of “two nations, side by side,” working together for peace.

Instead of peace, the EU seeks acceleration of settlement construction, evictions and demolitions  and evictions of Palestinians. Instead of peace there is constant violence–not by Palestinians under the Palestinian Authority, but settlers who “threaten to  make a two state solution impossible.”

Netanyahu once again denounces such presentation of reality as biased against Jews and not in accordance with “realities on the ground.” As one who has been termed a “self hating Jew” because I seek peace for ALL in the Middle East, the Israel government has met the enemy, and he is them!

Hezbollah Threatens Israel

Years go by without any serious negotiation between the Netanyahu government and Palestinian leaders. Years go by with more and more settlements on the West Bank and less and less opportunity to achieve a meaningful  peace in the Middle East.The assumption of the current Israel government is that “time is on our side.” That is an assumption lacking any credible logic to support its outcome. Time is NOT no the side of Israel, time is on the side of Muslim militants who seek war and destruction.

Hassan Nasrallah, head of Hezbollah boasted that his group was prepared for war with Israel and that “the days when we fled and they did not are over.” Most probably, Hezbollah has thousands of missiles which can reach Israel. Logic would argue it is in the self-interest of Israel to negotiate peace with the Palestinian Authority. Once that agreement is in place, Hezbollah will not merely be confronting Israel, it will be confronting Muslims who seek peace.

It is in Israel’s self interest to help forge a Middle Eastern Union modeled on that of the European Union. Such an organization will bring peace and stability to the region. Once in place, Israelis-Jews and Muslims–can have the peace they desire.

What Is Goal Of Bibi?

Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu?Beyond the Shadow knowing, does anyone have any idea what the Israel leader is planning–for Israel or the world? He formed a surprise alliance with the Kadima party led by former Army Chief of Staff, Shaul Mofaz, but it is still unclear as to the main agenda of this new alliance. Bibi claims there was need for a national unity government to focus no the economy, end draft deferments to men who want to pray and study the Torah rather than studying the art of war.

Is there a secret plan to launch a surprise attack on Iran? Is he forming this new alliance in order to protect his plans for war? Is he simply tired of the religious folk who want to spend their time investigating the Torah and what ancient scribes warned about attacking other lands?

Who Knows? I trust the Shadow knows!

Bibi Rethinks Being Bibi

PrimeMinister Benjamin Netanyahu shocked the people of Israel by creating a national unity government with the Kadima party. Shaul Mofaz, head of Kadima made clear his party’s desire to create an economy that dealt with social needs including growing poverty. He also strongly believes in the need for serious negotiation with President Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority. The new coalition might end Netanyahu’s reliance on right wing religious groups.

Prime Minister Netanyahu may shift focus on concentrate on (a) ending religious deferments for the armed forces for those who want to study the Torah rather than defend their nation, (b) reform the structure of Israel’s government in order to reduce power of minority parties in government decision making, (c) focus on needed economic programs for the middle class, and (d) serious negotiation with Palestinian leaders.

Israel Leaders Lack Trust In Reason

I have been termed by supporters of Israel as a “self hating” Jew because of opposition to the current hysterical group of men who  lead the Israel nation. Former Shin Beit chief, yuval Diskin, blasted Prime Minister Netanyahu. “My major problem is that I have no faith in the current leadership, which must lead us in an event on the scale of war with Iran or regional war. I don’t believe in either the prime minister or the defense minister. I don’t believe in a leadership that makes decisions based on messianic feelings.”

I assume Mr. Diskin will now be denounced by right wing Jewish leaders as a “self hating Jew” who wants to see Israel destroyed. Oh, the head of Israel’s armed forces, Benny Bantz said that “decisions must be made carefully out of historic responsibility but without hysteria.”

Ah, all these self hating Jews who want to avoid war.

Hamas Leader Says No To Israel

The world contains too many organizations which prefer living in the past and this attitude is continually found in Israel and among some Palestinians. Number two leader in Hamas, Abu Marzouk gave an interview to Larry Cohler-Esser who works for the Jewish Daily Forward. He bluntly told the Jewish reporter that “we will not recognize Israel as a state.” His main argument is that during the war for Independence in 1948 thousands of Palestinians were forced to flee and their land seized by the Israel government.

There is no doubt thousands were forced to flee by the Israel army, and thousands were encouraged to flee by Muslim leaders. Of course about  750,000 Jews living in Muslim nations were also forced to flee. The issue is moving past the past and focusing on the present. An intelligent Israel government  would support the Palestinian Authority which seeks genuine peace and will recognize the state of Israel. It makes sense working with Muslim leaders who want to forget the past and concentrate on today and tomorrow.

Detain Asylum Seekers Says Israel.

As a young Jewish boy in the United States during the 1930s it was common to  encounter Jews in my neighborhood who had fled Nazi Germany. We  also knew that thousands of Jews  were desperate to escape the fate which awaited if they could not leave Germany. Most nations  in Europe closed their doors to Jewish asylum seekers on grounds they had enough problems. Fast forward seventy years and now the Jewish state of  Israel is turning its back on asylum seekers on ground they are a small society which can not  allow thousands to enter.

A vast detention center which  could hold 11,000 human beings is being constructed in the Negev desert. It will become the world’s largest detention center. The Knesset already has passed legislation which classifies anyone  entering the country from its southern border as “an infiltrator” who can be  sent to prison for up to three years.

We have come a long way from Jews being the refugees seeking entry to the Jews building deterntion centers for asylum seekers.
