Two Turkish prostitutes have formed the Bread Party and will run for Parliament in coming elections. Ayse Tukrukcu, one of the founders said: “The administration
of the party will be composed of victims of violence and custom.” She credited Prime Minister Erdogan for inspiring her because he urged people to become more active in politics.
The fascinating aspect of this story is that it happened in a nation whose government is Muslim. In the last parliamentary election the number of women elected doubled from about 24 to 47. Women can be active in politics within a Muslim society.
