Bush Secretly Visits Iraq

President Bush visited the Anbar province of Iraq on his way to Australia. He was accompanied by his security staff while Defense Secretary met earlier with Prime Minister Maliki. Apparently, a message being sent to Maliki was that Anbar province, a Sunni area, was witnessing Sunni cooperation with Americans.

Bush still does not grasp problems in Iraq will not be solved by movie style moments in which the President hops in and out of areas. Bush likes photo sessions in which he is seen shaking hands with soldiers or standing defiantly before a flag in order to demonstrate his steady handed leadership. The fight for Iraq requires intelligence, patience, and focusing on real issues, not photo opportunities.
