Lt. Col. Steven Jordan is being court-martialed for dereliction of duty in the Abu Ghraib prison where prisoners were abused by guards. Col. Jordan argues he was not responsible for the MPs who committed the actions and had nothing to do with use of dogs against prisoners. Michael Eckroth, one of the interrogators said Jordan was present when prisoners were forced to stand naked in the corridor while a search was on for a smuggled gun.
The trial certainly is needed, but as of this point, no one in higher authority has ever been charged in connection with conditions at Abu Ghraib. Isn’t it necessary to also raise questions concerning generals and the Secretary of Defense?
