National Guard units in 31 states report having less than 50% of authorized equipment. Kansas is among several states which are stretched thin in terms of equipment and personnel.
The broken phonograph record of the Bush fiasco plays on and on. Bush is always telling America he has made the nation “safe” but under equipped and under staffed National Guard units are hardly ensuring the safety of the nation. It continually fascinates me how Republican stalwarts who can see no wrong in Bush are able to ignore a reality that knocks on their door. Despite the rhetoric of safety, Bush has done little to check ship cargoes, he ignores train safety, and he has placed the National Guard in a situation in which they will be unable to respond to a real terrorist attack.
