Save Money on Troop Salaries, but No Reduction on Lobbyist Donations

A group of fiscal conservative Democrats in Congress are arguing the Bush proposed 3% pay raise for our fighting men and women is too low. They are introducing a 3 and a half percent pay raise which Bush has threatened to veto on grounds it is excessive. The difference is $318 million in a military budget of $640 billion. Do the math.

As far as I know, there is no proposal from the Bush administration to reign in contributions from lobbyists. I guess collecting money has no limits, but there certainly is a limit as to how much can be paid fighting men and women.
