A large scale series of raids conducted by Thai army and police units arrested over 50 suspected Muslim insurgents in southern Thailand. This area has been the scene for over a year of continual attacks by Muslims who believe themselves to be subjected to discrimination. There is some evidence more and more south Thai Muslims are getting involved in the political process.
The situation in south Thailand is nothing analogous to Iraq, but there is a noticeable difference. In this early stage of rebellion, the Thai government has finally realized the important of involving Muslims in the political process and addressing their issues. Hopefully, this will avoid worse problems down the line.
