European Human Rights Court Backs Opposition to Compulsory Religion in Schools

The European Human Rights Court supported a law suit by Norwegian parents claiming compulsory religion classes in elementary school violated rights granted individual citizens in the European Union. The Court ruled since the overwhelming majority of Norwegians are Christian, such classes violated the rights of non-Christians.

As I read the story it struck me how we in America need the equivalent of the European Human Rights Court. We have a Supreme Court but its focus is on law rather than upon human rights. Sometimes, law does not acknowledge human rights.
