Japan’s Hidden Shame

Dr, Sadako Ogata, former UN High Commissioner for Refugees blasted her native Japan for its anti-refugee policies. Japan has literally done nothing to assist refugees from the Middle East or Burma or Afghanistan since it believes foreign workers somehow dilute the nature of Japanese civilization. Ironically, there are over 300,000 Brazilians of Japanese descent living in miserable conditions in Japan. Few realize over a million Japanese migrated to South America at the turn of the 20th century and their descendants are eligible to enter Japan.

At some point, the Japanese have to confront an issue — allow immigrants or witness a dramatic decline in population. Japan has among the lowest birth rates in the world and without immigration their population will experience a significant reduction within the coming thirty years.
