The city of Milan demanded the Italian government take action against the Gypsy “invasion” which it claims is overwhelming the city. A recent double homicide in which a Bosnian Roma killed two of his nephews appears to have sparked this latest burst of anti-Roma feeling in Italy.
The Sicilian Mafia is continually discussed in Italian newspapers and over the years prominent political leaders and court officials have been killed by the Mafia. For some reason, these murders have not resulted in any out cries of an “invasion” nor demands that Sicilians be evicted from Italy. The Milan response is hysteria, exaggeration, and simply another manifestation of prejudice against Romas in Europe.
