A recurring theme of Mitt Romney and fellow Republicans is weakening the power of federal authorities to dictate policy to states. President Obama decided to follow through on such ideas by allowing states to be provided flexibility in deciding how to administer work aspects of welfare programs. In other words, each state would be allowed flexibility in deciding whether further education or job training would fall under guidelines of seeking to get off welfare.
One would assume Mitt would agree with this decision. His comment: “Under the Obama plan, you wouldn’t knave to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job.” Republican Governors Brian Sandoval and Gary Herbert indicated interest in this offer, which leaves one confused. If Mitt Romney supporters like the Obama idea, then does this mean the Republican party is for state flexibility or does this mean Republicans want more power to states but only if he power is given by a Republican president.
