Neil Armstrong is dead. The human who set foot on the Moon is dead. Neil Armstrong represented an America which had dreams, an America which did not worry about debts, but about reaching out to the stars. He represented an America which wanted to end poverty, an America which wanted to grant women equal rights, an America which was willing to confront social injustice. His comment about “this is one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” represented the greatness, not only of America, but the human race.
We once went to the Moon, today we can’t even build a tunnel under the Hudson River. What else can one say?
