Somali Swedish Girl’s Rights Violated

An 11 year-old Swedish girl of Somali background was ordered by social workers to undergo a physical examination in order to determine if her parents had forced female circumcision upon the youngster. The girl tried protesting she had never undergone the experience and her mother stated clearly she opposed circumcision, but authorities went ahead with the examination. Katrin Linna, Ombundsman for Discrimination, said: “The girl’s rights and the rule of law were set aside” by forcing the examination.
