UK Slams African Anti-Gay And Lesbian Officials

The British government came down hard on Uganda MP David Bahati by denying entry to an official who leads the fight against gays and lesbians in his nation. Under proposed legislation sponsored by Bahati in the Uganda legislature the penalty for being a gay or lesbian would be life in prison or if found to have HIV, then the death penalty would be imposed. Uganda law declares engaging in any form of homosexual activity to be crime. Bahati is also claiming that gays and lesbians are targeting children in school by encouraging them to engage in homosexual behavior. Anti-gay hysteria is sweeping many parts of east Africa and the result is proposed laws that would penalize any semblance of homosexual acts.

Bishop Joseph Bvumbwe, chair of gthe Malawi Council of Churches seeks to carry the anti-homosexual campaign even further by making it a crime to give any aid to homosexual behavior. One can assume that might include publishing articles or giving speeches.
