Cheney Can’t Chain Mouth Of Hate

Former President Bush is undoubtedly clearing brush as I write these words and wondering how he ever got the idea that Dick Cheney would be an excellent vice president. Although, George Bush remains silent in the manner that most ex-presidents do in order to allow a successor to have time to assume the mantle of leadership, Dick Cheney is determined to prove to the American people he never made a mistake although he might now have second thoughts concerning the ability of that guy who sat in the oval office while he ran the nation. He insisted that torture was “the right thing to do” and “saved hundreds of thousands of lives.” Cheney also insisted Obama policies were making the American people less secure.

In his interview, Dick let it all hang out and made certain it was a firm display of the real Dick in operation. After all, if Dick didn’t speak and be upright who would challenge the drooping Democratic display of unpatriotic behavior? As Dick pointed out, waterboarding is really an aid to the person because it causes his physical apparatus to stand tall which inevitably leads to an ejaculation of honesty. If not for the Dick man, thousands of Americans would be limp and downhearted instead of being proud of their display of good old fashioned American patriotism.

God Bless Dick because Dick is the only person in the Republican Party who can speak not merely with forked tongue but keep a hand on the real issues that confront America. Unlike, that traitor Colin Powell who tried to show off his manhood by fighting for his nation, Dick knew one could perform more patriotically in the bathroom by manipulating the gun that fires truth that is known only to a handful of real Americans like Rush Limbaugh. Can’t you just see these two upright men standing tall with hands linked upward and saving America from atheistic militaristic communism? Oops, wrong metaphor, against atheistic militarist Islam.

Just Following Orders – So Who Is At Fault?

Right wing pundits are blasting President Obama for releasing Bush administration memos in which top level officials outline the process of torture. However, these same individuals were quite silent when lower level soldiers were placed on trial for abusing prisoners. Col. Janis Karpinski, who was demoted for prisoner abuses at Abu Ghraib, said the memos show clearly those at the prison were following orders from their superiors. “From the beginning, I’ve been saying these soldiers did not design the techniques on their own, and the soldiers said in their own court martials that ‘we didn’t do this on our own. We were following orders.'”

Colonel Karpinski is clear that what was done at Abu Ghraib shows clearly those responsible were both the soldiers implementing orders and Bush administration officials who gave the orders. We have placed on trial the soldiers, when are Bush and his subordinates placed on trial?

Bolivian President In Hunger Strike

Bolivian President Evo Morales has undertaken a hunger strike in order to force opposition leaders to support his planned changes in the nation’s electoral law. “Christ gave his life for the poor, and we’re here to give our lives for the poor” was the message sent by by the president to the nation. The opposition fears the changes will strengthen the party of Morales and allow them to get an overwhelming majority in the legislature. Opposition members believe if the changes go through, Morales will be able to obtain a two-thirds majority and do whatever he desires in the legislature.

President Morales has come up with an interesting idea that might well be applied to other world leaders. Imagine if Don Rumsfeld has threatened to stick his head in a barrel of water until terrorists agreed to speak the truth? Or,George Bush could threaten to go on television and speak nonstop for twelve hours, surely, the country would give him whatever he desires to avoid such an event. Sarah Palin could threaten to give her speech about the virtues of small town America for twenty four hours nonstop.

This is definitely an innovative way to get your message across.

Georgia Protests Grow Against Saakashvili

Last year President George Bush blasted Russia for provoking a war against Georgia and hailed President Saakashvilli as an outstanding leader and defender of freedom. The prevailing mood in the American Congress was that Georgia was the victim and Russia the aggressor. However, the people of Georgia have a different perspective than what is found in the United States. An expected 150,000 will be protesting over the coming days demanding the resignation of their president. They believe he was responsible for the war which has caused their nation to lose land. Zaza Gachechiladze, editor of the newspaper, Messenger, notes that Saakashvilli “doesn’t recognize last year’s war as a defeat. He keeps stubbornly saying he is going to stay… He now has very little support in the country.”

Bush, as always, rushed for judgment on the basis of limited evidence and never conducted a serious investigation as to the origin of the war in Georgia. Fortunately, the people of Georgia know what the war was about and how their president blundered.

American Torture Report Shows Bush As He Really Is!

In the history of the United States there have been few episodes which have matched in disregard for human rights as the story of what has transpired in Guantanamo during the interrogation of prisoners. Aside from flippant remarks from Don Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney about what is the big deal in listening to loud music or standing, no Republican leader who served under George Bush has indicated the slightest understanding of what was done to those imprisoned. And, we cannot forget that few of these men were ever convicted of anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course, some were part of the Taliban or served with al-Qaeda, but in America we believe people are entitled to a fair trial.

Mark Danner, a journalism professor has released on the web site of the New York Review of Books, the story of interrogation. It doesn’t take much more than reading the Table of Contents to make an American sick to his stomach. Among the headings are; “Suffocation by water, prolonged stress standing, beating by use of a collar, beating and kicking; confinement in a box; prolonged nudity; sleep deprivation; use of loud music; exposure to cold temperatures/cold water; prolonged use of handcuffs and shackles; threats; forced shaving; deprivation/restricted provision of food.”

This is the story of the Bush administration, not the story of America. This nation must place on trial every member of the Bush administration–including the president– who allowed such behavior on the part of Americans. We strongly suggest formation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission after the model used in South Africa.

Obama Persists In Bush Arrogance!

President Obama delivered an eloquent statement to the world concerning the need to end nuclear weapons and immediately followed up by urging continuation of Bush policies in Europe. In the wake of North Korea’s launch of a missile, the president said: “For if we believe that the spread of nuclear weapons is inevitable, then we are admitting to ourselves that the use of nuclear weapons is inevitable.” He correctly noted nuclear weapons were a legacy of the Cold War and it was time to end the use of such weaponry on this planet. However, he followed up these wise words by restating the Bush madness of building missile bases on the border of Russia in Poland and the Czech Republic. “As lone as the threat from Iran persists, we will go forward with a missile defense system that is cost effectives and proven.”

His remarks either indicate ignorance or stupidity. First, why would Iran fire missiles at Europe? Second, if this is a perceived threat by Europeans, shouldn’t they be the ones constructing the bases? Third, every poll in the Czech Republic indicates the population does not wish to be involved in any such missile bases.

I assume the leaders of Iran are rationale individuals. Why in God’s name would they fire missiles at Europe knowing full well the ability of NATO to retaliate with massive missile attacks?

Russia has offered to have any missile defense bases built on its territory. Have you talked with them, President Obamush?

Obama Is No John Kennedy!

In the spring of 1961, incoming President John Kennedy went along with a plan devised by his predecessor, Dwight Eisenhower, for the CIA to sponsor an invasion of Castro’s Cuba. There was no uprising when Cubans hit the beach and their American sponsors pleaded with Kennedy to send in the Marines. He refused. In 1962, the Soviet Union placed real missiles in Cuba. Again there were military voices urging bombing and an invasion. President Kennedy refused to go along and worked to resolve the issue by diplomatic means. President Barack Obama has inherited a mess in Afghanistan. Voices are pleading to get tough and send more troops. Even before developing a plan, Obama has sent 17,000 more troops and he has pledged to “stay on the offensive.”

President Obama insists there will be a new “more comprehensive strategy” which supposedly will wipe out the Taliban. Unfortunately, Obama echoed the words of George Bush by daring to claim that victory in Afghanistan was needed “in order for us to keep our homeland safe, in order to maintain our way of life.” Come on. This is pure rhetoric and has no connection to reality. If the Taliban gain control of Afghanistan, its people will suffer, but we Americans will go on with “our way of life.” We have heard enough of George Bush platitudes. Obama should be ashamed of himself for mouthing this hogwash!

US Among Top Five In Executions

The United States has gained the dubious distinction of being among the top five nations in the world which continue to execute people. China which has carried out three fourths of executions in the world stands by its self at the top of the list. All told, 2,390 people were legally killed in the world and since China executes for such horrible crimes as tax-evasion or bag-snatching there is no other nation able to keep pace with the sounds of guns firing at prisoners. Iraq, which last year killed 34 people, has another 128 prisoners waiting for the executioner. Iran, as usual, stands high on the list and has executed eight prisoners who were age 18 at the time of their deaths. Among the methods of killing people in the first decade of the 21st century are, hanging, beheading, stoning and lethal injections. People in this century certainly don’t want to lag behind our ancestors in killing prisoners.

When all is said and done, five nations have reached the pinnacle of execution success and they include, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and the United States. Of course, former Governor George Bush of Texas never knew an execution he couldn’t sanction. Fortunately, since 1973, at least 130 prisoners who were awaiting execution were freed due to DNA testing and review of their trials.

Call Me If You Want Recipe For Disaster!!

There is one phone call that President Obama will NOT be making in the coming months. Former president George Bush said “if he wants my help he can pick up the phone. I want my president to succeed. I love my country a lot more than I love politics. I’m not going to spend my time criticising. There are plenty of critics in that arena.” Of course, this is the man who placed country above politics and allowed a mud slinging campaign that claimed a former US senator who had lost both arms and legs fighting in Vietnam was not a trustworthy person who cared about his nation. This is a man who made NO effort to reach out to Democrats after 9/11 in order to have a unified nation unlike President Franklin Roosevelt who appointed prominent Republicans to high positions in government as World War II began.

George Bush warned President Obama against relying on government to solve the economic crisis. Wait a second. Isn’t this the president who authorized massive government expenditure to help save banks and business organizations. In the world of Bush, if he supports large government expenditures, it is because he wants to support “risk takers” like the leaders of AIG or GM who fouled up their organizations.

Naturally, the reflective man from Texas has no new reflections on Iraq. He was right, critics were wrong, and one day, mark his words, they will find the ever elusive WMD.

Can A Soldier Protest An Illegal War?

The invasion of Iraq was born in lies, the military initially fought it under the direction of an incompetent Secretary of Defense, and thousands of Americans died in a needless expenditure of human life and money. Army Spc. Kristoffer Walker told his superiors the truth — the Iraq was is illegal and immoral and he did not wish to participate in it. His company commander warned him of dire consequences should he persist in his refusal to go overseas, essentially telling Walker his life would be ruined. Walker still opposes the war but decided he had to go in order to avoid the consequences. However, he no longer trusts his military leaders and those who run the government.

The armed forces have recognized the right of a conscientious objector who can not kill since it violates his ethical principles. Surely, we can recognize the right of a moral person who cannot serve in what he considers to be an immoral action.
