Boycott Of China Launched In Latvia

Union Latvia has called upon its members to boycott Chinese goods for two weeks in protest against policies in Tibet. The union has initiated a “Don’t Buy Chinese” good campaign and uted stores, cafes and other business establishments to display a sign saying “We Don’t Buy Chinese Goods.” The campaign supposedly is an endeavor to indicate that “by buying each good made in China they(Latvians) morally and financially support human rights violations.”

Ostensibly, the campaign is all about human rights issues related to China, but the union also has another agenda. It is claiming Chinese goods are of inferior quality and people should be buying goods manufactured in Latvia or in the European Union. Is it morality or money that is the issue in Latvia?
