Islamic Scholar Questions Muhammad Existence

A noted German Muslim scholar has raised a storm of anger by questioning whether such a person as the Prophet Muhammad ever existed. Muhammad Sven Kaiisch, chair of Islamic Studies at the University of Muenster whose duties include training teachers for Muslim high schools in Germany, created a furor by stating his research has led him to believe that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have mythical origins. Police are worried his remarks might lead to attempts on his life. In addition, the Central Council of Muslims has said it will cease cooperating with his center. According to a spokesperson for the group, if Muhammad doesn’t exist it means the Qur’an is a false document and one might then propose closing down the religion.

The traditional view is that Muhammad was born in Mecca about AD 570 and died about AD 632. However, according to Kalisch, “I believe neither the existence nor his non-existence can be proven. I, however, lean toward the non-existence.” Unlike, most converts, Kalisch, has never ceased questioning his faith and has spent his life in the area of studying the Muslim religion.

Many scholars of Judaism and Christianity continually raise questions regarding the actual historical reality of aspects of their religion. They argue the core essence of their religion is what is important regardless if each detail is historically valid.

Bush Sacrificed Iraqi Christians On Altar Of WMD

The exodus of Christians from Mosul continues as thousands flee attacks by Muslim fundamentalists. During the past few weeks over a dozen Christians were murdered in Mosul and lacking any security, thousands of families have fled for safety to churches or to the homes of friends in the north. Close to half of the city’s Christian population has left because the Iraq created by the American invasion has been a disastrous event for those who are not Muslims. Christians whisper they are being targeted by a systematic campaign to get rid of them, and while most believe it is the work of Muslim fanatics, others point to Kurdish groups which want the city to become a Kurdish bastion.

During a visit to a monastery by General Tony Thomas, refugees were promised that anyone who killed Christians would be destroyed by his forces. Powerful words, and little action to carry them out. In most probability, Christianity will never again be a powerful force in Iraq. George Bush could not find WMD and he could not find a way to prevent the destruction of Iraq Christianity.

Indonesian Church Struggles Continue

Indonesia historically has been a nation in which religious freedom is practices and welcomed by the vast majority of inhabitants but there have been several recent incidents in which Islamic militants have exerted pressure on local authorities to halt the practice of non-Muslim religions. Members of the Bible Oneness Church and the Protestant Batak Christian church had to pray this week at the site of their ruined church which was torn down by angry Islamic militants. Sanor Siagian, speaking for members of the congregation expressed their feeling: “we’ll be holding service here until the district head provides a new house of worship for us.”

The dispute began in 2005 when Islamic groups exerted pressure to have the church destroyed because it lacked necessary permits. The police intervened and assured the Christians they would be allowed to use the house of worship until a new site could be found. However, the church was destroyed and police authorities have delayed issuing the necessary permits. It is difficult reconciling Indonesia’s commitment to religious freedom with the bureaucratic rules that hamper the free expression of religion. Last week an “heretical” Muslim sect was closed down and told they had to alter their religious ideas to conform with the accepted Muslim version. These are ominous signs that freedom of religion in Indonesia is threatened.

Christians Flee For Lives In Iraq

There were approximately 1,000,000 Christians living in peace under the regime of Saddam Hussein, but now thanks to America’s adventure in bringing democracy to their land, a majority of these people have fled for safety. Chaldean Catholics, who were the largest Christian denomination, once had 80 churches functioning in Baghdad, today only 8 are still active. A delegation of Christian bishops representing a cross section of all denominations claimed Bush policies had completely disrupted the lives of Christians in Iraq. As one told the newspaper, Azzaman, “This democracy this man(George Bush) has brought us is that of tanks, kidnappings, random killings, car bombings, and massive marauding armies who go about their work with impunity.” It is rather ironic that George Bush, who claims to be a born again Christian, has done more to wipe out Christianity in Iraq than any other figure in the history of that country.

Iraqi Christians have lived in that area of the world for over 1500 years and predate the arrival of Muslims. As one bishop noted, the Bush “surge” has resulted in religious cleansing of Baghdad with most Christians forced to flee the areas in which they have lived for hundreds of years. There is little doubt a majority of Iraqi Christians have fled to other nations. This is another unreported story about Bush’s failures in Iraq.

John McCain: Only Christians Should Be Presidents!

John McCain’s efforts to pander for right-wing Christian votes reached a new level when he told the nation of his belief that only Christians were qualified to run for the presidency. He claimed the “Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation.” McCain said, “I admire Islam. There is a lot of good principles in it. But, I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles, I prefer someone I know who has a solid grounding in my faith.”

There is NO mention in the Constitution of the United States of America about God or Christian principles. The men who wrote the document were quite clear they were NOT establishing a nation based on Christian principles. Actually, the Puritans regarded the Old Testament as of equal importance to their religion as the New Testament. I guess McCain believes Senator Joseph Lieberman had no right to run for the vice presidency. McCain has insulted millions of Americans, the tragedy is he doesn’t realize he insulted them.
