Torture Victims’ Records Lost In Guantanamo

Author Philippe Sands, whose book, “Torture Team,” describes what went on in Guanatanamo prison, was told by retired General Michael Dunlavey, who supervised Guantanamo for eight months in 2002 that records on the itnerrogation of Muhammed al-Qahatani, who was accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks, have disappeared. Saudi born al-Qahtani was interrogated for 48 days during which time hewas sexually taunted, forced to perform dog tricks, and given enemas at Guantanamo. The CIA admitted it destroyed tapes of interrogations in Thailand, but the new discovery might suggest tapes were also destroyed at Guantanamo. The erased tapes may violate a court order in 2005 to preserve “all evidence (of) the torture, mistreatment and abuse of detainees.”

It is difficult for any American citizen to react to the ongoing story of lies, deceit, human abuse and degradation carried out by members of the armed forces of the United States. These stories sicken the soul of all who believe in the American Constitution and what it represents in the history of our nation. The only resolution of this process must be the indictment of President Geoge Bush for violating the nation’s laws.
