Do Facebook Users Face Down Grades?

Most college students in this era devote X number of hours each day engaged in activities that revolve around use of Facebook of MySpace. A recent study at Ohio State University concludes that university students who use Facebook spend less time studying and thus wind up with lower grades than those who use the time for more productive uses. Researchers surveyed 219 students at Ohio State University and of this group, 148 said they had Facebook accounts. The survey revealed that Facebook users had grade point averages between 3.0 and 3.5 while non-Facebook users had grade point averages between 33.5 and 4.0. Those on Facebook spent about one to five hours studying while non-users spent about 13 to 15 hours.

Naturally, most Facebook users insist spending time chatting with others instead of studying had no impact on their grades. It would be interesting to do a more extensive research project in order to more accurately determine if this is a national trend. Obviously, less time studying and more time chatting has to have some impact on grades.
