Iran Allows UN Inspectors To Enter

World “experts” continue to declaim and declare about what is happening inside the Iranian government, but reality is we are guessing and no one really knows what is being discussed by Ayatollah Khamenei and President Ahmadinejad. The Iranian government made a sudden turn and agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit their nearly complete heavy water reactor and having barred entry into the site for over a year. The concession came days before publication of a new IAEA report that is supposedly highly critical of Iran’s lack of cooperation with the agency.

Barack Obama and other Western leaders are warning of further sanctions and actions without evidence of Iranian cooperation. Frankly, who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of Iranian leaders, we sure don’t.

Tehran Demands US Apology

Iran’s Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki urged the United States to apologize for its false statements about Iran’s nuclear program and admit it made incorrect asessments in discussing nuclear programs in his nation. Mottaki was proud the UN International Atomic Energy Agency supportted its contention that no nuclear bomb program was in operation. Mohammaed AlBaradei of the IAEA presented a report which stated: “The agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declalred nuclear material in Iran.” In a meeeting with foreign ambassadors and respresentatives in Iran, Mottaki said it was time for the West to admit incorrect evaluations were made regarding Iran’s atomic development program.

The United States over the past fifty years has intervened in the internal affairs of Iran including overthrowing a democratically elected government in the 1950s that was NOT under the control of clerics. Perhaps, it is time to apologize, not merely to the government of Iran, but to the Iranian people for our past blunders. Such an apology might open new possibillities for cooperation between the two nations.

Iran Now Has Industrial Nuclear Potential

A report by a United Nation atomic watchdog committee said that Iran presently possesses the capability of using nuclear power for industrial use. The number of centrifuge machines in the country is now up to 3,000. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is still not pleased with the secret manner in which Iran is dealing with atomic power. England’s Foreign Office urged Iran to change its attitude, “If Iran wants to restore trust in its programme it must come clean on all outstanding issues without delay.” Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded that his country has been honest and is only working on industrial use of atomic power. The report did state there were signs of change on the part of Iran. “Iran has provided sufficient access to individuals and has responded in a timely manner to questions and provided clarification and amplifications on issue raised in the context of the work plan.”

Nations have every right to be concerned if Iran ventures into the realm of developing atomic weapons since that poses a threat to world peace. However, the IAEA must be provided time and support for its efforts to work with Iran in order to ensure that nation goes in the direction of peaceful use of atomic energy. The last time the UN was ignored, we got the Iraq war.
