Iran Clerics May Have To Ban Sports In Name Of Koran!

Six young Iranians decided to show the world how millions of their countrymen feel about the election thieving activities of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. They wore green wristbands during a match with South Korea’s football team and they have paid the price of heroism. Four have been banned from any further games and their passports have been seized. Three of the players took off their green wristband at half time but Medhdi Mahdavikia refused and wore it during the entire match. Ahmadinejad is a football fan but will now have to endure a losing team since he fired several key players who dared stand up for freedom.

No one can offer advice to the brave people of Iran, but we suggest why not follow up on the football players and have a national strike including refusal of any sports player to participate in any game until bans are lifted against the four players.

President Obama is urging quiet support for Iranian reformers and that is most probably the best advice we can offer. Remember Gandhi and Martin Luther King and turn your other cheek, but refuse to give in to hate and violence. A peaceful general strike is still a weapon to use.

Sarkozy Confronts World’s Greatest Issue–Burqa!

Iranians are fighting for freedom in the streets of Tehran as they march directly into men wielding batons and chains, some of the protestors are wearing western clothes, some women are in jeans, and some women are wearing the burqa. But, to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the most critical issue confronting his nation is not the recession, it is not loss of jobs, it is not an education system which does not assist all children, NO, to the man with a beautiful wife it is the sight of women wearing a burqa. He told parliament the issue is not one of religious rights, but “the burqa is not welcome on the French Republic’s territory. It is not what the French Republic wants for the dignity of women” since wearing it is reflection that women are being debased and treated like second humans.

The highest estimate is that about 50,000 Muslim women in France wear a burqa which suggests the vast majority do not. A high percent of women who are protesting in Iran wear the burqa without conveying a sense of inferiority or personal debasement. Ironically, it is men wearing western dress who are beating them.

The issue of the burqa is much ado about nothing. Women have the right to dress as they please and if some prefer the burqa why is that a concern of government? If we allow government to decide women can not wear a burqa it opens the door for government to decide every aspect of the personal lives of people.

Ironically, first lady Carla Bruni of France goes around wearing a dress that reveals her ample breasts. I suspect there are people who view such dress as inappropriate for a woman. Frankly, who cares if she is bare breasted or all covered up?

BILL BENNETT AND WHAT’S WRONG WITH REPUBLICANS

Bill Bennett is regarded by the Republican Party as among its leading intellectual leaders and talk shows continually inviting this man with limited intelligence to demonstrate his profound ideas. He was asked the other night about American foreign policy towards Iran and the mouth that so enjoys hearing the sound of his own words responded with among the most pertinent comments Republicans could ever utter. He condemned President Obama for failing to support the reform protestors in Iran and was asked exactly what could be done for them. Mr. Bennett, a former college professor and former Secretary of Education who continually decries the ineptitude of classroom teachers responded with these words of advice: Obama should send phone cards and Xerox machines to Iran to help reformers get the word out!!

Gee, Mr. Bennett, most American students lack your profundity. Could you please explain to them exactly how America can send Xerox machines and phone cards to Iran. OH, I got it. American planes will fly over Iran and drop Xerox machines in the streets of every community and then send phone cards.

If the Republican Party is reduced to this nut case as their intellectual leader we can expect no Republican to be elected president until 2050. Until then, all Republicans should be saving their Xerox machines and purchasing phone cards to send abroad to defeat terrorism.

NEDA — Human Face Of Life In A Tyranny!

She went for a walk to protest the fraudulent election in Iran that resulted in the victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his merry band of thugs and so-called religious leaders. A bullet came through the air and landed in the body of Neda Agha-Soltan, the woman who has become a world symbol of what happens when religious fanatics gain power in any society. In America, religious fanatics believe they have the right to kill opponents, and while they are few in number in comparison to Iran, they elicit the same spirit of intolerance and hate. A crowd of about 1,000 gathered in a central Tehran square only to be clubbed and forced to flee by security forces including the infamous Basij. However, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei can not suppress the face of Neda nor her death agony which has now spread to every corner of this planet.

Ahmadinejad has “triumphed” and his supporters like Khamenei believe this is best for Iran. But, in gaining this victory, the clerics have lost the support of a large number of young Iranians. They will become “iip service Muslims” who smile when ordered but in their hearts will remain the picture of their dead comrade’s last hours on this planet.

What price salvation for Muslim clerical leaders, what price salvation? They have gained a temporal victory and lost their religious souls. In Heaven, the Prophet’s head is bowed in sorrow at the loss of his child, Neda.

End Of An Iranian Dream Of Freedom?

The crackdown on Iranian protestors continues with police wielding guns and batons which are swung to hit the bodies of innocent Iranians who dare to believe their nation has free elections. Reports indicate ten or thirteen or even more are dead and hundreds have been beaten or thrown into jail. The Ayatollah Khamenei has lost the moral support of untold thousands of Iranian students who never again will believe anything he says about religion of life. He sold out his soul due to fear the people of Iran could not be trusted to support the Revolution that supposedly ushered in a period of democracy for Iran. The number of people in the streets is declining as reality gradually sinks into the minds of young students that their dream is shattered and they will again have to confront life in a lethal semi-dictatorship run by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Conservative American critics blast President Obama for remaining silent. Just about every expert on Iranian affairs supports silence since any comment by Obama will damage efforts of those seeking to gain some leverage with the Iranian government. There are times in politics when silence can also be a weapon. At this point, the only hope for young Iranians is for the West to keep open the doors of contact with backward looking clerics.

Khamenei Denies Recount And Ends His Power!

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threw his support to the obvious fraudulent presidential triumph of President Ahmadinejad, and in so doing may well have ushered in the end of clerical power in Iran. During the past few years, Ahmadinejad has slowly but surely replaced clerics in government with members of the military as he works to redesign the Iranian government into a full fledged dictatorship. Khamenei argued: “If the difference was 100,000 or 500,000 or 1 million, one might say a fraud could have happened. But how can one rig 11 million votes? Perhaps, the Ayatollah might check out “elections” in Nazi Germany or Fascist Italy, five million was easy to rig or even ten million. Khamenei has unleashed a monster who will devour the clerics and drive them from power. One day, the Ayatollah will regret his failure to support the people of Iran who demonstrated in favor of democracy.

The tragedy is the destruction of a potential democracy because some clerics feared the right of people to express their views. Khamenei can blame the United States or the UK for the street demonstrations, but President Obama has been very careful to avoid making provocative statements. Ahmadinejad may push the buttons until he pushes the one which results in retaliation, a retaliation which will damage the people of Iran.

Iran Election Results — The Truth Or Fabrication?

Thousands of copies of an alleged secret document sent by the Interior Ministry to Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, the day after the election supposed reveal the real final results of the presidential election. Students are holding the document in their hands as they continue demonstrating for a government that truly reflects the will of the people. At least fifteen people have died at the hands of President Ahmadinejad’s thugs and apparently the army is now holding off from further attacks on students. Over fifty members of Parliament are demanding an investigation into the beating and killing of students at Tehran University and many others want an investigation into election tallies. There is a strange mood of anger, anxiety, fear, and optimism among Iranian students as they wonder if their march for freedom may actually result in change.

The alleged secret document sent by the Interior Ministry to Khamenei concludes with the following information: “therefore for your information only, I am telling you the actual results as follows:

Mirhossein Mousavi: 19,675,023

Mehdi Karrabi: 13,387104

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: 5,698,417.

Are those actual figures? The figures prove the need for a complete recount of ballots.

US Support For Israel Drops But Lieberman Rants On!

A recent study by Project Israel reveals American public support for the state of Israel has dropped over the past nine months from 69% supportive to 49% supportive. The reason is not because Americans are entranced by the performance of the Palestinians, but they are increasingly disgusted by a pig headed obdurate stance on the part of Israel leaders such as Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who refuse to offer any sensible proposals for peace other than whatever we have been doing we intend to continue doing it. The Obama administration has increased pressure for Israel to allow free flow of goods in and out of Gaza and allow its inhabitants to work at restoring their economy. Secretary of State Clinton wishes Israel would cease linking the release of a captured Israel soldier to the lives of the entire Gaza population.

The Israel soldier eventually will be released but there is no evidence the present Israel policy is helping to achieve that goal. Obama wants border crossings opened and commerce to restart in order to focus the attention of Gaza inhabitants on their economic development. Forcing them to endure poverty only gains new recruits for violence.

Perhaps, the people of Israel could watch on TV how hundreds of thousands of young Muslims in Iran are peacefully fighting for peace. Those youngsters do not seek war with Israel anymore than do most Muslims. If Israel would accept the 1967 boundaries a compromise can be worked out concerning return of Palestinian refugees.

Where Are Angry Arab Voices Opposing Ahmadinejad?

It is clear the people of Iran had their rights violated by the blatant stealing of the election by President Ahmadinejad, but the response in the Arab world has been remarkably silent. One can imagine if Israel denied its Arab citizens of their right to vote, the Arab world would explode in anger and demand UN sanctions. Each day hundreds of thousands of brave Iranians march through the streets of Tehran but has a single Arab leader sent a protest to Iranian leaders, has a single Arab nation witnessed thousands of its youth marching through their streets in solidarity with the brave youth of Iran?

It would be wonderful if students at leading universities in the Arab world as well as Muslim students in colleges throughout the world organized protests and let Iranian leaders know they have violated the basic values of the Koran and the Muslim religion by their actions in Iran.

By the way, where are Muslim clerics? Iranian young people are being beaten and killed? Do you have anything to say?

And, where are the British academics who were willing to organize a boycott of Israel universities and who deplored the Gaza invasion? Do you guys have any demonstrations on order concerning Iran?

Ball Of Peace In Arab Court!

The aftermath of President Obama’s speech has resulted in renewed discussions among various Arab groups about the necessity of coming together in a coalition for peace. Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal is now in Cairo discussing the situation with General Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman in order to find a solution to end the breach between Fatah and Hamas. An anonymous source told the Arab weekly, Al-Ahram, “the Americans– to judge not just by the Obama speech and talks in Cairo and Riyadh, but also by successive delegations to the region –seem serious about getting engaged in talks for peace. Now the Palestinians and Arabs in general have to work to make these talks possible.” Amen.

The devastating results of Ahmadinejad’s stealing of the Iranian presidency means groups like Hamas have to cease relying on Iranian assistance. For the first time in years, the United States is adopting a balanced stance between conflicting groups which requires all radical elements to unite with moderates and present Israel a united front determined to seek peace. If they allow Iran to enter the process, it will merely provide an excuse for Israel negotiators to play the Iran card and frighten the United States.
