Resign Or Die Is Offer To Madacasgar President!

Early reports about the resignation of the president of Madagascar indicated that Marc Ravalomanana decided in the interest of peace and security in the nation to offer his resignation. However, latest reports indicate he signed the resignation with weapons pointed at hi. “I never resigned. I was forced to hand power over at gunpoint” he now says. Ravalomanana told a special meeting of the Southern African Development Community he had no desire to resign but was forced to by members of the military. The SADC made an unusual decision to suspend Madagascar due the manner in which the current government assumed power. A foreign diplomat who was in the area said he never saw any military forces in the area when the resignation took place.

The SADC is upset at how Madagascar is ruled but it refuses to take any action against President Robert Mugabe who stole an election and has brutalized the nation of Zimbabwe. Is there a double standard as to who can or can not assume power in an African nation?

Disorder And Confusion On Madagascar

The world is in turmoil, war and violence range from one end to the other so it is not surprising that on the island of Madagascar soldiers would be storming the presidential palace and ending the term of office of the president. President Marc Ravalomanana barricaded himself into the presidential palace with some close supporters, but within a few hours, troops stormed the area and took control of the nation. The army confirmed it has taken over the palace and there are reports the president has decided to allow reality to take control over his dreams of power and to submit his resignation. Opposition leader Andry Rajoelina apparently has taken power with the aid of the army.

Most likely, the outgoing president will be found guilty of corruption, but this should not hide the reality a new government will undoubtedly plunge into the world of corruption and in a few years be overthrown by another champion of honesty, truth and the Madagascar way of life, whatever that is. It certainly is not government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Twisted Logic Of African Union Leaders

The African Union has rules dealing with democratic procedures, and among the most important rule is to oppose any opposition leader who has the support of most people in his nation because that means the current dictator would be forced from office. The AU believes it is important at all costs to maintain the status quo, naturally, this supports the rulers of the African Union who know they will always receive assistance from the AU when opposing forces threaten to overthrow their dictatorial regime. The AU warned Madagascar’s opposition leader that he had no right to take power in violence that has erupted on the island. Andry Rajoelina, mayor of the capital city of Antananarivo said he was now in power but the president of the nation denied any such event had taken place. In the meantime, hundreds are dead or wounded.

Jean Ping, chairperson of the AU Commission says “it is totally forbidden to take power by non-constitutional means” and his organization will oppose any such action. BUT, President Robert Mugabe lost an election and then voided it in order to hold a new election he could win. According to the AU that is OK. After all, Mugabe is part of the in-group of old buddies in arms.

Hypocrisy is written into the by-laws of the African Union.
