Michael Steele: Inaccurate, Unwise, Unnecessary!

Nine long years ago, President Bush said it was necessary for the United States to invade Afghanistan and wipe out the Taliban and Osama bin Laden. Move ahead to 2010 and it now appears the United States never invaded Afghanistan. Stories about fighting in Afghanistan were fabricated by the media because George Bush is a man of peace and never wanted American troops fighting in Asia, let alone in Iraq. At least, that is the story now told by Michael Steele the head of the Republican party. According to the Republican revised history of Afghanistan there were no American troops in Afghanistan until 2009 when newly elected President Barack Obama decided to send them into that Asian country. “It is Obama’s war” according to this leading Republican.

Unfortunately, even most Republicans can not accept this dramatic revision of history. Senator John McCain termed the remarks to be “wildly inaccurate” and urged Steele to rethink whether he should retain his post as head of the Republican National Committee. Senator Lindsay Graham put it succinctly by noting the remarks were: “uninformed, unnecessary, unwise, and untrue.”

We believe Graham was not only describing remarks by one man, but his comments apply to Fox News and the Tea Party when they describe the president.

Republican Chairman Claims Afghanistan War Obama Idea

Nine long years ago Republican President George Bush ordered American forces to invade Afghanistan and overthrow the Taliban government which he claimed had been responsible for 9/11 attacks. Fast forward to July, 2010 and we discover, according to Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican party, that Barack Obama was the one who decided to fight in Afghanistan and Republicans had nothing to do with this decision. Mr. Steele was captured on camera making the following statement: “if he’s(Obama) is such a student of history, has he not understood that, you know, that’s the one thing you don’t engage in a land war in Afghanistan? All right? Because everyone who’s tried, over a thousand years of history, has failed. And there are other reasons for that. There are other ways to engage in Afghanistan.” He went on to say, “this was a war of Obama’s choosing. This is not something the United States has actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in.” After the schumuck was told what he said was an insult not only to President Obama, but his own party, he issued a statement that said: “the stakes are too high for us to accept anything but success in Afghanistan.”

Republicans are attempting to use the English language in creative ways to get around the reality it was their party which began the war in Afghanistan, it was their president who initiated fighting and was responsible for eight years to create a stable Afghan government, but failed. I await Republican explanations of how the $5 trillion national debt inherited by George Bush rose to $10 trillion by the time he left office.

FLASH!! We have just received notice from Rush Limbaugh the invasion of Afghanistan was the fault of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. As for that debt thing, if you examine actions by President Franklin Roosevelt during WWII you would discover he raised the national debt in order to pay for the war. Mommy, the Democrats are responsible for all bad things in the world!!
