Iran Government Message-Forget Freedom Fighters!

A problem for cleric fanatics when placed in charge of a government is their inability to conceive of anything other than punishment of dissent. Even after over a million people flocked to express their sorrow over the death of Grant Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri, the government’s only response was to ban all attempts to remember those who have fought and died in the struggle for human rights in Iran. In another sign of stupidity, the Iran government sentenced former official Abdullah Ramezanzadeh to six years in prison for “acts against national security.” His trial was a farce and most probably others who dared to challenge the election of President Ahmadinejad will spend some years in a prison cell.

A few days ago, fifty mourners in a mosque were arrested because they had come to pay their respects for Montazeri. The cleric Ayatollah Jalaeddin Taheri was detained for organizing a memorial to the fallen Ayatollah. If this keeps up there soon will be enough clerics in jail to fill a mosque.

Power Of Truth In Iran

It increasingly becomes clear that President Ahmainejad simply has no grasp as to the consequences of his decision to steal the June election and declare himself ruler of Iran. His action has unleashed a storm of protest that simply will not be beaten back by batons or beatings. The death of Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri brought over a million people into the streets in Qom despite warnings, despite tear gas, despite the crude brutal batons of thugs who serve the government. The Ahmadinejad regime is trapped in a dilemma since Montazeri was a hero of the overthrow of the Shah and he is admired by millions because of his decision to oppose Ahmadinejad and the stealing of an election.

The government warned dissidents not to make the journey to Qom, but thousands upon thousands of people walked to the city to honor a man who represents the TRUE spirit of those who overthrew the Shah– they wanted democracy, not theocracy for Iran!

For the first time since the revolution, people in public are denouncing clerics and cries of “death to Khamenei” and “murderer” are now being heard. Did the clerics around Khamenei over step their hand?

Iranian Opposition Leader Attacked

If there is one thing to be said about President Ahmadinejad of Iran is his inability to grasp the need to lay low during certain moments in life. Grand Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri died over the weekend of illness and many people representing a cross section of Iran attended his funeral. On the way home, Mirhossein Mousavi, who heads the opposition to Ahmadinejad, had his car attacked by plainclothes police who hurled insults. Mousavi had just returned from a funeral which witnessed thousands of angry men and women shouting insults at the Iranian government and yelling, “death to the dictator.” Security guards were all around, but people were even angrier.

Marchers at the funeral held aloft portraits of Montazeri and waved green banners to highlight their desire for a green revolution that will sweep the Ahmadinejad thugs from power. Massive crowds were crying and shouting to express their sorrow at the death of a man who had once been a fervent supporter of Khamenei, but became a spokesperson for those who seek freedom for their nation.

It is clear the Iranian government is attempting to silence the media and Internet, but each time they follow the route of heavy handed power, it only sparks greater support for a green revolution.
