Prophet Muhmmad Had Sense Of Humor, Didn’t He?

Those who believe the Prophet Muhammad was a great figure in human history understand he grasped the entirety of the human experience, including the ability to laugh. For some reason, his followers are unable to respect their Prophet and his greatness. A South African cartoonist created a new furor by depicting Muhammad lying on a couch in the office of a psychiatrist and complaining, “other prophets have followers with a sense of humor,…… ” Thousands of Muslims throughout the world are demonstrating to prove the complaint has validity. Zapiro, the cartoonist, drew the sketch in response to the Facebook furor which compelled the Pakistan government to close down the site of “everybody Draw Muhammad Day” cartoons. The South African Muslim Judicial Council exploded with a complaint that “people can not expect the Muslim Community not to express its pain and anger.”

Jonathan Shapiro(Zapiro) received a threatening phone call from someone who identified himself as, ‘Muhammad.” Zapiro shot back, “Which one?” and received curses. As Zapiro commented, “if we can’t express opinions in a democratic society, we really are in trouble.”

Nic Dawes, editor of the Mail & Guardian, summed up the issue: “In my opinion, the cartoon is as insulting to Muslims as the assumption that Muslims are incapable of reacting to a challenging image with anything but violence.”

By the way, do Muslim newspapers in the world depict Jews in an insulting manner? Oh, that is OK, because those images are not about Muslims.

Lars Vilks Dogs It Out Of Home

There are Muslims who interpret any writing, drawing, or verbal expression that slights their religion as validation for employing violence against those guilty of these heinous crimes. For some reason, this concern about the dignity of an individual’s religion does not carry over to other religions. Literally, every day, in some Muslim newspaper there appears vicious articles against Jews accusing them of any and all crimes against humanity. More often than not, these expressions are accompanied by sketches which depict Jews as horrible creatures, but apparently to some Muslims it is OK to insult other religions, but express any word or drawing which does not pass the test of purity, must lead to action.

Swedish artist, Lars Vilks, gained international hatred from many Muslim groups for a sketch that depicted the Prophet Muhammad as a dog. Yes, it was in bad taste, but it does not sanction attacks on Mr. Vilks. Early this week he was physically assaulted and over the weekend his home was torched.

Teddy Bears And Muhammad–The Saga Concludes!

People of the Muslim faith are encountering discrimination and prejudice from religious bigots throughout the world and the last thing they needed was for the clerical bigots in the Sudan to add fire to the flames of anti-Muslim feeling. In a decision that would have seemed logical to the 15th century mind, Ms. Gillian Gibbons of England, a primary school teacher working in the Sudan, was found guilty of “insulting religion” because the children in her class chose the name of “Muhammad” for a teddy bear. The British Foreign Office is furious and British Muslim groups are distressed because the court case is a God-send to every idiotic bigot in their nation who wants to make a case that the Muslim religion is backward and bigoted. It now turns out that a member of the school staff– Sara Khawad, was the one who told religious authorities about the “crime” and even testified against Ms. Gibbons. The judge who heard the case, Mohammed Youssef, said “We are happy with the verdict. It is fair. We will be very sad to lose her.” Huh!

Every time situations like this occur, Muslims confront anger from those who believe their religion has scant relevance to life in the 21st century. This writer knows the overwhelming majority of Muslims believe Judge Youssef and the Sudan court system behaved in an incredible stupid manner by even identifying this situation as an example of “insulting religion.” The best solution at this time is for every ambassador to leave the Sudan for a month in protest against the close minded fools who actually believe naming a teddy bear Jesus or Muhammad, or Moses, or bin Laden or teddy makes a difference in our lives. So, let me print it, the name of the teddy bear in the Sudan was Muhammad.
