Peru Amazon Tiananamen Massacre!

During the past few days, reports have emerged from Peru that during a stand-off between Amazon Indians and troops, a massacre of the protestors is being compared to the Chinese Tiananmen Square horror. Supporters of Alberto Pizango, head of Aidesep, a coalition of 56 Amazon Indian tribes, confronted troops on a highway. The group was protesting enactment of a new law that would open huge areas of Indian ancestral lands to oil and gas exploration. The 2,000 Indians were armed with spears and machetes but these were of scant use when troops opened fire. Survival, a UK human rights organization, claims the event became an Amazon Tiananmen massacre in which allegedly hundreds of Indians were killed. They report troops burned and buried scores of bodies to cover up the slaughter.

Alberto Pizango took refuge in the Nicaraguan embassy and has been flown out of the country for his safety. The Peru parliament has suspended the new law for ninety days until an investigation can discover exactly what happened on the highway. Oil and gas invariably are more important to modern people than the land which belongs to Indians.

Peruvian Leader Alberto Fujimori Convicted

Alberto Fujimori fled Peru several years ago and sought refuge in his ancestral homeland of Japan in hope he would be safe from the long arm of the law. Even as he fled, there were many who wanted him placed on trial for crimes committed during his presidency against insurgent groups. For some reason, Fujimori decided to return to Peru and face the charges. After a 16 month trial he was convicted of “crimes against humanity” and sentenced to a 25 year prison term. “Your honor,” were his only words, “I am taking my recourse to appeal.” He insists the killings did not violate basic human rights. On hearing the verdict, his daughter who is a congressman, said in anger: “It is a victory for human rights groups and terrorism.”

We believe his daughter is correct, it IS a victory for human rights groups and for the victims of the brutality of Fujimori.

CIA Charged With Lying About Plane Crash

An internal investigation uncovered information suggesting the CIA engaged in a cover-up to hide negligence in the downing in Peru of a private aircraft suspected of carrying illegal narcotics. The CIA report said the agency had lied to Congress and withheld information concerning the investigation. Apparently, the CIA shot down the plane which was carrying missionaries and then covered up the attack. A Peruvian plane acting in coordination with the CIA shot down the plane and killed Veronica Bowers and her infant girl. Peter Hoekstra, a Republican member of the House Intelligence Committee said “to say these deaths did not have to happen is more than an understatement.”

The problem when such stories are revealed is it furthers belief in conspiracies on the part of government which many on the Internet never ceases. Perhaps, it is being overly optimistic to hope the CIA is NOT ALWAYS involved in secret actions that are denied to ever have happened.
