Voice For Pluralism In Indonesia

Retired General and presidential hopeful, Prabowo Subianto sent a clear message to the electorate that his election would signal a dramatic change in attitudes toward pluralism. He noted the military followed multicultural practices and pointed out his nation had a long tradition of multiculturalism including having its national anthem composed by a Catholic. The leader of the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerinda) said Indonesians were all “destined to be brothers and sisters” and that creation of a pluralistic society was his goal for the country. “My mother is a Christian and among my family there are Chinese and Western members.”

General Subianto is a long shot and it is doubtful if he will come close to securing the presidency, but the fact an important leader is advocating an open pluralistic society in which all can practice their religion in peace and security is an important message.

Will Barack O’Bama Win Irish Vote?

An Irish band achieved fame by writing a song entitled, “There’s No One As Irish As Barack O’Bama.” They found evidence O’Bama has some ancient Irish blood way back in his heritage. Ger Corrigan of the Nancy Boys claims their song was hijacked by Mary, Francis and Shay Black and want restitution for the use of their song. The Irish group is angry that someone played their song on YouTube and made it appear the Blacks were the composers of this ditty.

We suggest the entire matter be resolved in some nice Irish pub where beer can be the lubricant that not only works out who wrote the song, but is the means by which good Irish people get on with the task of helping their Irish brother, Barack O’Bama get elected. The important thing is the need to get another Irish man in the White House. What better candidate for this goal than a nice Black Irishmen, Barack O’Bama leading the way with a glass of beer in one hand and a nice stick to bang away.

Sarkozy Urges Permanent EU President

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and French President Nicolas Sarkozy are urging shifting from a rotating president of the European Union to making it a permanent position. “We need a president of the Council(the institution representing all EU member states) that does not change every six months,”said Mr. Barroso. The European Union needs a sense of permanency and a leadership that will assert the collective might and ideas of all members. Barraaso is interested in having Sarkozy serve as the president of the European Union on a permanent basis, but it is still unclear if the French president would be willing to surrender his present leadership of the French nation.

The European Union has evolved into a powerful coalition of 27 nations, but it is time to move on to the next stage of a united nation composed of its federal units. The world needs a powerful EU, particularly at a time when the United States might wind up with a John McCain presidency. The world needs a powerful alternative to the United States which is floundering and confused.

Iranian Reformer To Run For President

The Iranian economy is suffering from high unemployment and staggering 29 percent inflation rate. President Ahmadinejad has isolated his nation in a mad quest for developing atomic energy. Large sectors of the Iranian nation seek change, but under current rules it is difficult to have a viable candidate. Mehdi Karroubi, leader of Iran’s reformist National Confidence party has announced he would seek the presidency in an effort to alter the direction of his nation from an over emphasis on foreign policy conflict to one which deals with issues of concern to the average person. The cleric who was speaker of Parliament in the 1990s, said he wanted to focus on the economy and defending “people’s legitimate liberties.”

Iranians are still waiting to hear about the decision of Mohammad Khatami who was a mildly reformist president several years ago who continually encountered problems from clerics who would prevent his efforts to liberalize the economy and restore basic freedoms to the people. The success of any reform candidate depends on what clerics such as the Supreme Leader Khamenai decide.

John McCain: Only Christians Should Be Presidents!

John McCain’s efforts to pander for right-wing Christian votes reached a new level when he told the nation of his belief that only Christians were qualified to run for the presidency. He claimed the “Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation.” McCain said, “I admire Islam. There is a lot of good principles in it. But, I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles, I prefer someone I know who has a solid grounding in my faith.”

There is NO mention in the Constitution of the United States of America about God or Christian principles. The men who wrote the document were quite clear they were NOT establishing a nation based on Christian principles. Actually, the Puritans regarded the Old Testament as of equal importance to their religion as the New Testament. I guess McCain believes Senator Joseph Lieberman had no right to run for the vice presidency. McCain has insulted millions of Americans, the tragedy is he doesn’t realize he insulted them.
