Prince Andrew Blasts Bush Administration

In a rare Buckingham Palace interview, Prince Andew spoke to reporters from the International Herald Tribune about the Bush administration’s invasion of Iraq. He described the United States as the Number 1 ally of Great Britain, but conceded their relations were going through a strained time. He noted, there are “occasions when people in the U.K. would wish that those in responsible positions in the U.S. might listen and learn from our experiences.” He pointed out Great Britain’s long history had given it some insights into what or does not work in dealing with nations. “If you are looking at colonialsm, if you are looking at operations on an international scale if you are looking at understanding each other’s culture, understanding how to operate a military insurgency campaign–we have been through them all. We’ve won some, lost some, drawn some. The fact is there is quite a lot of experiences over here which is valid and should be listened to.”

Prince Andrew believes the post invasion chaos in Iraq could have been avoided if the Bush administration had listened to British advice. For example, British views were ignored on the decision to outlaw the Baath Party or to dissolve the Iraq military. The incompetence of the Bush administration has engendered “healthy scepticism toward what is said in Washington.” The Americans simply would not listen to the views of other nations since Bush people were convinced of their own briliance in dealing with Iraq.

There is nothing to add to the comments of Prince Andrew. Unfortunately, America had a King George who did not listen to a Prince Andrew or any other member of the British government.
