The nightmare eight years of George Bush created deep feelings of pain and anguish among many Muslims who believed his policies created an image that anyone in the Muslim religion was sort of terrorist. The Organization of the Islamic Conference(OIC) welcomed the idea of Obama giving a major address in a Muslim nation and expressed the belief, “America with your guidance, can help foster peace,”particularly if it is not an enforced peace. The organization said it regarded Hillary Clinton as one who was “no stranger to the Muslim world.” Muhammad Aquil, President of Noor Welfare Trust said Obama represented an “historical change.” He believes “Obama’s presence in the White House will be better for the Islamic world.”
Many Muslim leaders are willing to give Obama an opportunity to demonstrate he wants to reach out the Muslims and avoid taking one side in conflicts in order to achieve genuine compromise. Even a newspaper which is close to Hizbullah, the Lebanese Al-Akbar, believes “the makeup of his new team indicates a more diplomatic and pragmatic approach that favors dialogue.” The test of this new team will be in dealing with the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
