Zimbabwe Crisis Reaches Critical Level

Initially, weeks went by without any action on the part of President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe to reach out to his opponent and carry out the agreement to share power. Months have gone by without any effort on his part to deal with the humanitarian crisis which now envelops his nation as thousands already are dead due to cholera. Millions are on the verge of starvation but this man who claims he is the father of his nation refuses to budge an inch and allow competent officials to assume responsibility for ending the crisis. Mugabe fears honest officials will uncover the criminal actions of his underlings who used their power to gain control over large sectors of the farm land and then run the farms into the ground.

The Movement for Democratic Change charges “the situation on the ground in the country has reached a critical level.” The country is nearing massive starvation but Mugabe will not surrender any power. Such is the way of a man claiming to be “father of his country.”

Tsvangirai-If Mugabe Controls Army-We Control Police!

Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) in Zimbabwe, made it clear to the Mugabe government that if it wishes to retain control over the armed forces, his party must have control over the police. Mugabe has used the police to beat, harass, rape and kill MDC members and it would be an invitation to disaster to allow Mugabe complete control over armed forces in the nation. “If (Mugabe’s) Zanu-PF takes Defense, we take Home Affairs, that is not negotiable.” Mugabe interpreted a “power-sharing agreement” to mean his party controlled the police, the army, Finance and other key ministries in a nation that due to his inept leadership now endures a 11,000,000% inflation rate and at least half the country faces starvation in the coming months.

Tsvangirai and the MDC have no other choice but to insist on assuming control of Zimbabwe. The nation is in a state of complete collapse due to the Mugabe rule and allowing him to continue enjoying unchecked power is simply ensuring starvation for millions.

Tsvangirai said he would attend the SADC meeting in Harare where African leaders will attempt to persuade Mugabe to compromise if he really cares about the people of his nation.

Five Million Can Die In Zimbabwe!

The tragedy of Zimbabwe gets worse with each passing day. The United Nations World Food Program is warning unless something is done to get the nation back in some semblance of rationality, nearly five million people will face the prospect of starvation in the coming months. The megalomaniac President Mugabe earlier this year banned all foreign aid which delayed initiating programs to feed starving people. His decision to drive out of the country white farmers and give their farms to his cronies rather than to experienced black farmers transformed a productive farm economy into a basket case of incompetence.

Officials of the Southern African Development Community(SADC) asked former South African president Mbeki to mediate the impasse between Mugabe and the Movement for Democratic Change which won the presidential election only to have it stolen by the president. Mbeki has been unable to persuade his old friend, Mugabe, to enter into a genuine power-sharing arrangement. The government is paralyzed and no foreign nations will supply aid to Zimbabwe until power is shared. Cry for the beloved country of Zimbabwe.

Mugabe Plays Waiting Game

President Robert Mugabe has maintained power over his nation for nearly three decades and it is increasingly apparent he is in no mood to surrender power to forces of democracy. Morgan Tsvangirai, who heads the Movement for Democratic Change, wants equality in securing power in the Cabinet in order to jump start the economy which has reached state of utter chaos. Mugabe fears if allowing Tsvangirai access to key Cabinet positions will result in having his cronies lose power, and, most probably continued access to financial gain. Mugabe in a recent speech offered to teach Tsvangirai how to govern and act as a leader.

Zimbabwe has an inflation rate of over eleven million percent, half the population is on the verge of starvation and Mugabe insists he has something to teach the opposition about how to govern a nation. The only lesson he has to teach is the process of destroying a nation’s economy and ending democracy. His leadership has completely failed in any aspect of government.

Zimbabwe Close To Mass Starvation

The madness of President Mugabe who always places his own ego and the need to protect his fellow thugs has resulted in his nation rapidly reaching a point of economic collapse. Inflation is running at astronomical levels of over eleven million percent and now Zimbabwe is almost at the point of running out of food. The nation just experienced the worst wheat harvest in over thirty years and USAid, the American humanitarian agency, warns there soon will not be any maize left, which is the people’s staple food. “We are in serious trouble,” said Jabulani Gwaringa of the Zimbabwe Farmers’s Union(ZFU). “There is no seed, fertilizer and crop chemicals on the market. Banks are not offering farmers credit.” He said seed maize had fallen from 25,000 metric tons to about 9,000.

Zimbabwe used to be the bread basket of east Africa until Mugabe drove out white farmers and replaced them with his friends who were more interested in plunder than in farming. Opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, is trying to negotiate for power so he can do something about the crisis but Mugabe does not wish to return the farms to those who can increase production. He would rather his countrymen starve to death than take back the farms from his allies in crime. In driving out white farmers Mugabe also drove out the black farm workers who were productive.

Zimbabwe Starves While President Mugabe Procrastinates

Two weeks have passed since an historic agreement was signed in Zimbabwe that allows for a coalition government in order to confront the crisis that engulfed the nation. Millions of people are threatened with starvation but President Mugabe is off in New York to attend a UN meeting and most probably have excellent meals at the top restaurants. Mugabe continues to accept the reality his leadership has failed and endangers the lives of Zimbabweans. Morgan Tsvangirai pleaded with Mugabe to implement the agreement as soon as possible. “We need to respond to this crisis with utmost urgency,” he said. “It is therefore imperative that a government be formed in the next few days and begin to implement a plan that our people have food and do not die of starvation.”

The only immediate action on the part of the Mugabe government is to issue new bank notes which are necessary due to the high rate of inflation. Perhaps, President Mugabe believes people can eat paper currency. This man is a criminal.
