A Plan For A Unified Korea

Governments are denouncing release of Wikileaks documents concering relations between diplomats, but informatin about North Korea and China could be useful. The leaked documents reveal China is frustrated at the “spoiled child” regime in North Korea and is tired of its refusal to behave in a rational manner. The documents reveal China is close to the point of accepting a united Korea which has close relations with the US as long as its government was not hostile to China. The Chinese now have extensive trade relations with South Korea which could grow even larger if there was a united Korea.

We offer the following suggestion to build on what is revealed in these documents. The United States should announce that if Korea was united, all American troops would be withdrawn from the peninsula and it would urge a dramatic reduction in the size of the Korean army. This would reassure China that its border was safe from any military invasion.
