Afghanistan–Obama’s Vietnam?

The bad news for President Obama is the constant turmoil over the proposed health care reform package, the good news for President Obama is the constant turmoil over the proposed health care package instead of concern of the debacle that is Afghanistan. Within weeks after assuming the presidency, Barack Obama rushed into a policy of “more troops” for Afghanistan prior to even exploring long term policy for that nation. Senator John McCain already is sounding the war cry of “we lost Afghanistan because there were not enough troops on the ground!” Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is blunt in stating, “the Taliban insurgency has gotten better, more sophisticated.”

There currently are 68,000 US troops in Afghanistan. Suppose, that force was increased by 100% and then had 136,000. Does anyone imagine for a moment 136,000(which is less than the number in Iraq, a smaller less mountainous nation) would be able to do the job? Of course, does President Obama have a clear idea what constitutes “victory” in Afghanistan.

The flawed election undoubtedly will result in a different group of thugs and corrupt officials than is currently in charge or it will result in the present crew of incompetents getting another shot to become millionaires.
