Anyone under the age of 12 has spent his or her entire life in the presence of war in Afghanistan. This has never happened in the history of the United States, and the Afghanistan war is almost twice the length of our struggle against England in order to obtain independence. One can go back over the blunders of Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld who had no plan, no idea, and were completely ignorant regarding the country they had just liberated from the Taliban. They completely failed to focus on economic development, they failed to install a government containing moderate religious leaders and technocrats who might have gently introduced reforms to protect women while in the process developing a thriving economy which would have begin the process of creating a modern middle class. Instead, they gave Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, along with his crooked family. The result has been corruption, deceit, loss of morale among Afghans, and re-emergence of the Taliban.

Unfortunately, President Obama also lacked any plan and thought the war could be “won” by killing off Taliban and al-Qaeda leaders. Karzai is stepping down after eight long years of doing nothing to create a modern society. It is rumored that Abdullah Abdullah will become the next president. Yesterday, two of his aides were murdered by the Taliban while Karzai insists any problems remaining in Afghanistan are due to drone attacks and killing civilians on the part of NATO and US forces.

President Obama–you killed Osama bin Laden–did that end the war in Afghanistan??
