Afghans Suggest Border Force With Pakistan

Afghan’s Minister of Defense proposed creation of a joint Afghan-Pakistan force which could patrol the border between the two nations in order to coordinate efforts at dealing with militants. “To fight them(terrorists) we have to ..come up with some arrangement with our neighbor in Pakistan, that we should have a combined joint coalition, Afghan, Pakistanis, to be able to operate on both sides regardless of which side.” It is apparent the Afghan government is attempting to find a diplomatic approach to current difficulties in which American and Pakistanis are ready to fight one another.

For some reason, the Bush administration still doesn’t grasp the pride felt by Pakistanis in safeguarding their territory against foreign invasion. If Pakistanis are cooperating with the Taliban such a joint force is the best way to ensure such cooperation would not be harmful to the fight to create stability in the region.
