An al-Qaeda web site explained why it was to the interest of terrorism for Senator John McCain to be elected president of the United States. It expressed the view the Arizona senator was more likely to continue aggressive war actions in Iraq and Afghanistan than Barack Obama. If al-Qaeda is to gain victory, it explained: “This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain who pledged to continue the war until the last American soldier.” Therefore, the web site explained, “al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush.”
The web site even suggested it might be beneficial for the election of John McCain to engage in a terrorist action prior to November 4th in order to help his candidacy. “If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests, this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida and then will succeed in exhausting America till the least year in it.”
John McCain headquarters had no comment on this message. One can assume, the McCain people look forward expectantly to assistance from al-Qaida.
