On one hand, there are those who believe killing Osama bin Laden ended the threat of al-Qaida, and on the other hand there are those who believe the organization is alive and well. CIA Director David Petraeus told Congress al-Qaida might leave Afghanistan, but there always remained the possibility it would emerge somewhere else. James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, believes the organization has found new life in Yemen and Algeria, and there is always the possibility they might gain increased power in Libya.
Members of Congress so enjoy telling the American people they are now safe because Osama bin Laden is dead. The real question is whether Congress is dead right or dead wrong on this issue.
