Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, the United States of America was the leading producer of oil in the world. A source of anger for the Japanese government in 1941 stemmed from anger at US refusal to supply oil to the Japanese Army which was engaged in war against China. Surprise! America once again leads nations of the world in production of oil. Its reliance upon oil from shale led to the current production of 3.2 million barrels of oil each day. So,Saudi Arabia, so long to your oil leadership and welcome to the new boy on the slippery block of oil. One result is the inability of Middle Eastern nations to threaten the US with fear of refusing to sell oil.
Obviously, there are environmentalconsequences to this change. Shale is not clean energy. We now have a new problem–more oil and more environmental disaster. Is it worth the cost??
