Few people who utter words concerning the conflict betwen Israel and Arab nations are aware that during the 20th century there were Jews and Muslims and Christians who worked for peace. Few realiza that among early leaders of the PLO were Christians who also desired an Arab nation. It is not surprising that Israel Prime Minister Shimon Peres told French Imams of the importance for all nations to aid the people of Syria. “The Arab League can and should form a provisional government in Syria to stop the massacre, to prevent Syria from falling to pieces. The United Nations should support the Arab League to build an Arab force in blue helmets.”
Peres identified Iran as an enemy, not merely of Israel, but of Muslims who seek a world of peace. Jews have a responsibility to work with our Arab brothers and sisters in the struggle for modern societies in the Middle East which welcome all people regardless of religion.
