This has not been a good year for President Obama as far as fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A few weeks ago, General Stanley McChrstal, mouthed off about what he did not like concerning his superior officers, and shared his thoughts with a few million people. An Internet video which is currently circulating to the vast amusement of al-Qaeda and the Taliban depicts the current general who will assume leadership of the Central Command as telling an audience five years ago about his joy in killing the enemy. As he told a group, “actually, it’s a lot of fun to fight. You know it’s a helluva hoot. I’ll be right up front with you. I like brawling. You go into Afghanistan. You get guys who slap women around for five years because they didn’t wear a veil…. guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a lot of fun to shoot them.” Secretary of Defense Robert Gates admitted the comments were not appropriate, but noted they were made five years ago and the general has since learned that killing Muslims is not a fun task in life.
Perhaps, it is time to institute at West Point a new course, entitled: “Shut Your Mouth.” The video with his remarks are being circulated all over the world and as far as people who see it are concerned, the remarks were made yesterday, not five years ago. What the hell is going on in the US military?
During WWII, a great American general, George Patton, was visiting a hospital and came across a soldier who had Post Traumatic Stress. Patton became furious and slapped the soldier. Patton’s superior, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, made clear to Patton he had lost his chance to command in the invasion of Normandy and demanded proper behavior. Sorry, Gates, this general must be reprimanded and his punishment made known all over the Internet.
