New Zealand allows religious education to be offered within its schools, but only under guidelines that prevent indoctrinating children in the ideas of a specific religion. The Churches Education Commission announced they had discovered that some volunteer teachers in elementary schools were frightening children by warning them failure to become a Christian meant your final destination was Hell!
They even discovered that some children who did not wish to become Christian had to stand in the corner while other children learned the lesson. The “naughty corner”was for those who preferred reading fairy tales and other such items rather than learn the fairy tales known as “the Bible.” Why are children in a PUBLIC SCHOOL getting into religion? They have parents, and those are the people who should teach kids what they should or should not know about religion.
