Are These Pictures Offensive?

A colonel and a sergeant in Afghanistan decided to spice up daily briefings with a few pictures that were designed to bring laughter to men and women of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team. Among those in attendance at these sessions were the equal-opportunity leader, the chaplain, a legal adviser and a few other important leaders.

1. A cartoon of a man kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach.

2. A black athlete crying in victory who was in the arms of a white coach while the words “Slavery Reinstated” was shown.

3. A man hitting a woman above the words, “Slap a Bitch.”

4. A male soldier telling a female soldier, “get the f–k back in the kitchen”

Brigade Commander, Col. Frank Jenio thought the cartoons were OK and would help built morale. An investigation concluded there were over a dozen of such slides which were classified as racist or sexist. The colonel has been relieved of command.

I do not understand why anyone finds such cartoons to be offensive, given that no one finds Republican actions to deny unemployment benefits or cutting aid to poor people or seeking to deny health care is viewed as simply men and women carrying out their political and social beliefs. I guess one man’s sexism is another man’s saving America from socialism.
