The government of Israel which continually declaims and protests against inflammatory statements from Muslim nations contains a mouth that roars non-stop nonsense in the person of Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. In a visit to Baku, he slammed Turkey for its “anti-Israel” stance. Lieberman complained the Turkish government virtually every week, sharply condemns Israel and makes outrageous statements that the “Israel military forces have carried out genocide.” He was referring to the Gaza invasion which resulted in the death of over a thousand innocent Gaza civilians.
During the past several decades Israeli and Turkish army units have conducted joint exercises and the Turkish government has been among the only Muslim leaders who work cooperatively with Israel. Reality is that Israel over-reacted in Gaza and the murder of over a thousand civilians was reprehensible. The Israel government had justification for being angry given rockets that continued hitting its nation, but to make a murderous assault in which civilians were destined to die was not the correct response. There were alternatives which would have avoided deterioration in relations with Turkey.
Step one to improve relations with Turkey is getting rid of Avigdor Lieberman, a foreign minister lacking any capacity to engage in diplomatic relations with any nation in the world. The fault lies not in the stars, but in the minds of Israel ministers who blundered.
