Bhutto Allowed To Return To Pakistan

Mrs. Bhutto was allowed to return home even as former prime minister Sharif was denied the same opportunity by President Musharraf. According to Tariq Azim, Minister of Information, the two cases are different since Bhutto will still have to face corruption charges which were pending when she departed. Mrs. Bhutto attempted to negotiate from Musharraf a guarantee corruption charges would be dropped and a constitutional amendment would be introduced allowing her to run for a third term as prime minister.

Musharraf still must confront a hostile Pakistan Supreme Court which may rule unconstitutional his decision to retain the posts of army chief and president while running for election.
