Members of the United States military are under jurisdiction of military law, but they are also citizens of the United States of America. PFC Bradley Manning in 2011 was charged with distributing material from military and diplomatic sources to Wikileaks which resulted in embarrassing moments for members of our government. As of this date there is no evidence anyone suffered death, injury or anything other than being embarrassed.
Lawyers for Manning are demanding his release since military justice requires something called a “speedy trial.” After two years in prison, despite no trial, despite no conviction, one is left wondering if this is the United States of America? If Manning is guilty, put him on trial and convict him. But, keeping him in jail for two years, placing him in solitary confinement and constantly harassing this young soldier is not what we do in the United States of America.
