Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there was a political party known as the Republican Party whose members actually voted for measures that benefited citizens of the United States of America whose income was less than a million dollars. Once upon a time in America, if there was a natural disaster, no one was concerned if it occurred in a neighboring state or their own, we were all Americans. Several years ago, a Hurricane hit southern states and billions were spent for relief. Democrat congressmen never were concerned the money was headed for states where most voted for the Republican party. That was then, now is now.
Republican House of Representative members are growling at the cost of paying for Hurricane Sandy. The question of “pork barrel” was never previously mentioned, but now Republicans want to check on every cent spent for those who were devastated by Sandy. As Congressman Tim Huelskamp noted: “Conservatives want to see a real plan that addresses real needs for Sandy.”
Actually, this is the time to spend for long term needs of weather change like additional spending for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. But, that would spend money now to save more money later.
