The old Biblical adage, “as ye sow, so shall ye reap,” is coming true in Syria. The regime of President Bashar al-Assad has consistently armed militants in Hezbollah as well as numerous other terrorist groups believing encouraging guerrilla groups somehow benefited the nation of Syria. Yesterday, guerrilla forces fighting in the capital of Damascus launched an attack on the Defense Ministry and the result was devastating to Assad. Bombs blasted the building and in the midst of the rubble lay the dead bodies of Assad’s brother-in-law, General Assef Shawkat and that of Defense Minister Daoud Rajiha. For the first time conflict arose in Syria the high and mighty have suffered the consequences of refusal to negotiate.
Battles are now raging in Damascus and the wealthy hear guns in the distance. Unfortunately for them, the guns of July are not murdering opponents of the government. Assad and his supporters have met the enemy and now the enemy has become them. Assad unleashed Hezbollah and now such groups are killing supporters of the Assad regime.
