President Tarja Halonen asked to meet with Bush during her visit to the United States but was told he lacked time. However, he did have time to meet with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt who is a noted conservative. Could it be that Bush is upset at her negative comments concerning our “successful” war in Iraq?
This is a relatively minor incident but symptomatic of Bush’s foreign policy problems. He enjoys meeting with people who agree with him, especially with his favorite lap dog, Tony Blair. Bush simply lacks time to engage in serious dialogue with those holding differing views. Please don’t get me wrong, I am not criticizing the president for believing what he believes because if he met people who did not believe what he believes he might have to change what he believes into something that he does not believe.
