It was a minor item in the newspaper, it was an item few bothered to read. The story in the Moscow Times reported that a group of elderly men and women had gathered in the town of Penza in order to erect a statue and come to honor the name of Joseph Stalin. Few people in the world know this name. Oh, most, at some point or another, have learned about the crimes of Adolf Hitler. But, Stalin has disappeared into the dustbin of history for the vast majority of people living on this planet. He was dictator of the Soviet Union from about 1925 until his death in 1953. During that time period he was responsible for the death of at least 25,000,000 people. He constructed death camps years before they were built by Hitler, He carried out a reign of terror, torture and brutality that made the average Russian fear even making an innocent remark to a neighbor. The current prime minister of Russia,Vladmir Putin worked in the KGB, a notorious secret police unit which carried out the terror.
Oh, it was a minor item in a newspaper. Some people gathered to honor Joseph Stalin. I live on this planet and never cease to be amazed at the ability of humans to forget horror and honor it.
